Why will it increase the GC? The leafs are slung under the the axle, not over.

Sharat - the above 3 extra leafs will surely increase the GC by 2-3 inches. But, that [] clamp used to fasten both the upper and lower sets will limit not only the shackle movement of lower, but is totally nil on the upper set.

Do you more pics of a different angle showing the U-Clamp setup?

Santiosh
It will not increase the GC. I believe that the only way to increase the GC is to increase the tyre height. So if you increase the tyre height by 2 inches the GC increases by 1 inch.

I think that this is one of the reasons off-roaders go in for SpOA setup.
One it increases the ride height, &
Second it enables the owner to mount bigger tyres that will not rub against the body under articulation.

Experts please comment!!!

Ok, I was thinking of the below logic (pic courtesy Sharat's jeep). Wont adding 3 leafs' to the existing 8or9 make the diff(whole axle) go up?

(Sharat, pic from the opposite angle showing the U Clamp will clear this doubt)

I doubt that it will make the difff go up but on the contrary the diff will remain where they are and by adding the extra leafs the lower most leaf will come down by the exact thickness of the extra leafs that you put in extra. This is my opinion though, lets wait for the comments of experts!

Santosh, you will wonder that the same thing came into my mind but when I told the machanic to do this mod, he explained me in detailed. Harjeev is right. It will neither increase your ground clearance, nor will lift the body. Better go for longer shackal.

Attachment 253050

In this case, the axle will go up only if the tyre is willing to float in air.:)

Look at it again. The tyre is grounded, the axle is firmly attached to the wheel. So the axle will remain where it was.

Yeah, the axle will go up, pushing the rest of the body down.:D

Bro,
Your logic is not correct.
GC wont increase.
on contrary, the body will come down by few millimeter(by the thickness of the spring pack), reducing the vertical space under the mudguard. agree:

Why should the body come down?

because the body is attached to the springs!
Keep the axle as the datum. And you are adding 1 inch thick packing below the OE spring & axle.
So the spring mounting point moves down by 1 inch with respect to the datum.
Naturally the body & chassis, which is attached to the spring also will move down by 1 inch.

Whatever you are adding (leaf or packing), you are adding below the main leaf, which remains the topmost leaf, right?

Ok, 1 more question from my novice POV. If you remove all but 1 primary leaf from the OE leaf set, will the GC decrease or not?

EDIT - Dont bother answering - I think I got it now... if you add even 20-30 more leaf's, that will look only like a truck leaf assy - albeit scraping the ground, but doing nothing to the axle.

PS - So Sharat, lets continue to find the real need for this mod :)

Actually, I need to answer this. If you leave only the primary leaf, the GC will actually go down.lol:

That is because the single leaf without any support would be pushed down by the body weight.

Can you please help me to find the proper rear and front leaf set setup ?

Right mow I am rebuilding a CJ500D 4WD. The previous owner had put 10 leafs on front and 11 on rear. I want to remove the extra leafs put by him and keep as original (CJ500D) set up so please help.

1. Total no of leafs used on front and rear leaf set?
2. Which are the different leafs used in front and rear leaf set? (If possible, please give me the dimensions)

My mechanic advised me to keep 8 on front and 10 on rear but I am decided to go for the Original OEM set up.(I think the mechanic is not sure which one to remove!

Similar dilemma but i think my jeep is sitting high and with a tilt, how can i source OE spring set front and rear or any other better alternative?

How many leafs in front and rear on a stock CJ3B?

Just ask for a replacement set from a Mahindra parts dealer. You get the original leaf set too which is what I bought and installed
