guys i have attached two photos of the extra 'things' i saw on a front differential of a nissan patrol 4wd.
its this 'wheel' like things pointing towards the front!
i would like to know what it is and what its for?
Hi Parm,
those are the extremity of the radius arms.
The wheel shape of the arms end is due to the need of hold the bushes for elastic connection of the arms to the axles.
This suspension is coil springs so you need something to hold all together and that is what the radius arms are there for.

Thanks Ignazio. Was wondering too and from the pics it was looking like an independent wheel / bush with a bolt as axle that can rotate (like a cart wheel!!). As you explained, those are the ends of dropped radius arms. Attached pics are of these / similar arms which might give a fair idea.

Thanks ignazio, These things exists in Safari as well 4 on rear axle I used to thing they are to protect the differential.
No, these are not same as safari . If you look closely in the arm photo, these do not look separate.
Actually safari has rollers the rear diff, and this is for times when you drive on a trail with deep ruts on both sides.
These rollers roll on the center hump and avoid the center diff getting scraped

I've been told that those are actually vibration dampers, (officially from Tata dealer)
Either way, they look to me pretty useless!

Patrol is one of the few off-roaders you can buy today with Solid Axles with coil springs up front. The picture is the arm for the front suspension.
I just picked up a Nissan Patrol from the Australian High Commission and I absolutely love the vehicle. Will probably do a write up when I have some time. For now I have updated my garage with some pics that I took when I took my Patrol to the beach in Chennai.
Drove Tini's Patrol and its awesome! The thing is huge!!!

In Safari VTT these are for vibration control and for the increasing the cornering ability, as was told by TML, and thus the sweeping cornering stability of 2.2 is greater than the 3.0. They got loose for me after 2 years of rough riding and was tightened.
There are 2 more rollers on the side, blue coloured at the sides, close to the foot board.
They do not protect the differential.
