Hood reccomendations for the MG413W Gypsy king

Hi All,

I have finally pulled the trigger and got a gypsy king. I am loving it, this has been an age-old dream to own one and maybe this vehicle can now become my mid-life crisis wheels.

The stock soft top hood is pretty bad on the fit.

I am looking for a hood which is in two parts.

1. The front cabin
2. The rear part which could be attached to the front cabin part with the help of buttons, zipper etc. The idea is we could detach the rear part as an when it feels easily

Any pointers in this direction would help.

"Hood" is the flip up thing that covers the engine, the "bonnet". You mean "TOP", I think.

Counter-intuititively, an open rear will tend to let all manner of dirt, dust and critters into the cabin as the vehicle's forward motion will create something of a vacuum which will suck in dust clouds you kick up with your wheels. You will spend a lot of time cleaning the interior and self. Fabric tops tend to leak in time (2-3 years) and the clear plastic windows scratch, yellow and crack.

All I am saying is this has to be done carefully or you will have an expensive mess on your hands. Rag tops are sexy but more tricky than you might first envisage. Do it carefully, with expert help, or stick with a hard top. I only get hard tops these days as I am already too sexy and have to fight them off.

Re: Hard-Tops for Offroaders (Jeeps, Gypsys and more)

Is fitting a hardtop on a 1977 Mahindra Cj4A constitute as illegal modification? The RC book doesn’t say whether it is soft too or hardtop. The vehicle is supposed to ply in Kottayam Kerala. Will I run into trouble with the notorious Kerala MVD?

I have fabbed up two steel tops built by coach builders and have installed one fiberglass top on a Thar. All three vehicles were modified in a conservative fashion. I have had no trouble whatsoever. Cops ignore me.

Nobody has posted any such trouble in this thread.
