re: What Jeep / 4x4 parts should I order from Abroad?

you can get a switch that is used to disconnect the battery _ve wire ( earth wire ) ,I have seen this unit on a Defender ( don't remember the exact make ) its very useful

One can just disconnect the battery very quickly, may it be for parking or for electrical job etc or even when the vehicle is not used for a while .

here is a Desi Avtar of this

Sudarshan,
It is a battery cut off switch or known as DEADLOCK switch. This one was picked up in Hyderabad and is an original fitment on Tatra army trucks (24V), can be used on a 12V too.

This one has on/off positions and the lever cannot be removed.
There are other kind which has a removable L key, which is good against lesser organized thefts.

ps Watch photographed for scale.

The desi avatar that is found on the Army 550's is available locally and is used to disconnect the +ve wire and not the -ve as stated above. The -ve is earthed to the body/engine/chassis.

In my view these things are best bought in India as it works out cheaper and last longer. Only thing the presentation and design is not that good compare to its foreign siblings.

That's the exact reason to suggest . fool proof quality.

@ papaboost, think why I insist to fit this on _ve/earth wire .

Sudarshan

This is a good measure to prevent further damage/fire in case of short circuits .

Tejas,
Hope it is the one I posted you are referring to for 150 bucks, I would love to have a dozen at least for friends, then.
Regards,

This is for comparison, the Tatra heavy duty and its desi counterpart.

re: What Jeep / 4x4 parts should I order from Abroad?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

@Trammway: The seat pockets are great. However, i'm building a half cabin. Won't be able to access them.

@Sudarshan: If you want the switch, i have a spare one lying around with me. Nut splitter i'll ask around

@GTO: couldn't find good Jeep logos but ordered a set of Transformers logos (the autobot and decepticon emblems). Compressor i got. Jerry can et al available here and they occupy too much space if not weight.

@Gogi: no one makes waterproof alternators

Other things i ordered till now:

- Aircraft style flip switches (water resistant)
- Britpart mushroom snorkel head
- Siren with megaphone

Soon to be ordered:
- lockable bonnet latches
- searching for round LED "the Dog" type rear tail lights
- ratchet type tie downs
- searching for internally adjustable spotlights - like those in early cadilacs or in some american police cars.

I already have an accelerometer based tilt meter which can be set to change colour and sound an alarm at preset angles. See screenshot below:

Dear Tejas,
It is a good quality switch and for 150 bucks its too reasonable.
The removable key is good for safety against theft or kids.
Would you be interested in sending me 5 pieces for a start? I can PM my address to you.
Thanks and Regards,
