Re: New 4X4 project

Thanks for the encouragement Anupam. The sidesteps will be covered. The square pipes are only a base support. Since they will be exposed to the elements I am planning on using Chequered plywood sheet, automobile grade. (the type used for bus flooring).
As for the rear arches, the recessed holes are going to be fully covered to give a smooth appearance, Hopefully that will make it look more in sync!

Hi @jyobeb,

As usual, the slow and purposeful progress is keeping the anticipation for the final product high.

Good idea on the hydraulic struts. One word of caution. Please have a mechanical backup fabricated in case of strut failure. Even if one fails, the hood will not stay up. Have experienced it in both the Qualis and Innova rear doors.

Cant wait to see the finished product. Good job and Good Luck!!

Cheers.

Re: New 4X4 project

Thanks man! Will keep that in mind. Infact I should just retain the original propping rod, right?

I was a little apprehensive about using the 90bhp Safai axles with my 140bhp Toyota engine. I managed to get a differential assembly off a 2012 2.2. Dicor ABS model (with the sensors). I replaced the crown and pinion assembly with mine (since mine was LSD) and the ratio was 4.56:1 against the 4.1:1 that came on the 2.2 dicor.
Despite my crown ring and pinion gear being 14 years old, it was in remarkably good shape so retained the same. Tata definitely over engineered some parts.
The brake drums were also considerably larger and were self adjusting too.

Re: New 4X4 project

Beboy Sir,

Great build, does the differential tube have a slight bend or are those link clamps creating an illusion in the pic.

Since it’s been such a long build can’t wait to see the final outcome. Great Job Keep it coming!!

Beboy, that is a full floating differential. Is that with 30 spline axles sir ?

If yes , then it is a brilliant combination.

Prabhu - got a doubt. Whats a FFD? Heard of FF Axle but D?

And all Safari sumo genre came with SFRA (even the axle in pic is a sfra). There is no FFRA in Tata family of passenger cars till date IIRC.

Good catch mate..saw it on the phone and thought that was full floating .. On further research found that thee is no dana 44 with 30 spline in full floating .. Period..

Even the load carriers are running SFRA with 30 spline these days.. From both tata and mahindra stables..

Started working on the swing away tyre carrier. A few pics of the fabrication in various stages.
I managed to procure a lock and carrier plate assembly off a Toyota Surf.

Next is the exhaust shield. I plan to fabricate a kind of skirt that will have 2 holes for the Remus pipes alone.

Re: New 4X4 project

Why in a hat?
The delay was mainly because I was looking for tinker who would understand what I want. Finally found him and progress should be much faster now!
