CJ3A to the rescue EDIT: Now with a VNT Turbocharger

I started off towards Hyderabad in my car planning to get the CJ6 ready and so on. When i was here i realized things would take a little more time , meaning i was basically JEEPless. It was a pain to drive those big cars in city , suddenly every one started to look down upon me , it just didnt get well with me.

There were many OTRs planned and i was very restless, that when i decided i needed a small diesel JEEP . Spread the word around a few friends , and with in 2 hours i was led to a 1948 CJ3A , went to the owner next morning and bought the JEEP back with me .

Congrats Frankie!!

You are too lucky to find such a good Jeep in 2 hours. Now I can imagine about your connections and network of friends.

Looking forward to see your action pics in coming Bangalore OTR's.

Shishir_bn this JEEP has a OM616 diesel engine mated to the original Willys 3-speed tranny with a 9/44 crown pinion. It will blow away the petrol JEEP , everything is better , i even managed to topple it . Engine is fuel efficient and stubborn , suspensions is leagues ahead of my CJ3B . Gear shift , steering too is way better.

Offroad it feels lighter to the 3B and has better composure , but have to be careful when the JEEP tilts since it has the original 48" dana 41 axles as compared to the 51" axles in my 3B. Yes i am bringing this to Bangalore after AKC.

Thanks Shibu , i am lucky to have JEEP friends who are 100% into JEEPs from MBs to CJ5s . I have to miss the Bangalore sand OTR as i will still be in Hyderabad at that time.

I am looking forward to meet you Kerala Offroaders in your turf (MUNNAR) this year.

I wanted to check out the articulation and went diagonally over a big rock and the JEEP was seesawing on the front left and rear right wheels and just toppled to the right , but before it hit the ground i managed to jump out and cath hold of it and push it back.

Shishir my Petrol JEEP has a mahindra gearbox, this 3A has a willys gearbox which has a much better shift quality and less play.
Very soon you can lay your hands on this little monster.

Would have been a sight to see! Good to know that you were able to get it back on its wheels in time.

Definitely worth I would say... but... if I say this, then does it mean that Thar pricing is spot on? (N00b assumption being 2 restored MM would at the minimum reach 7 odd lacks)

EDIT:

Looks like you have taken up water weeding with the new vehicle! LOL!
