Praaji, cannot say it is a panacea for all related problems. In simple terms, if an open to atmosphere spring allows 100 particles to come in contact with it, this setup will allow anything between 10-XX % to come in contact (depending on nature of covering and same ambient conditions).

What's that black triangular JEEP written thing on the bonnet? What's the use of it?

Sorry, if I'm asking a stupid question. But like to know the answer anyway.

Re: JEEPS of the Charminar offroad club

I remember DKG once explaining that it is called as a JEEP BRA and helps prevent damage from stone chips at highway speeds, especially when you are behind a truck or other large vehicle. Shall try to post the link to his description.

DKG Explains what a Jeep Bra is: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-ve...ml#post1484752

Shams does the same too: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-ex...ml#post1243368

Re: JEEPS of the Charminar offroad club

Correct and agreed sir so by this logic my alternative of cling wrapping the leafs should also work quite effectively. No 'Jhanjhat' of opening and cleaning and putting back. Though both these options will be great for the rains.

Also as you say, the cover will let a greater amount of the allowed % particles, etc remain there as against if the leafs were not covered? Ill try the cling wrap method right away on my CJ. It goes for service in a day or two before the rains hit Bombay.

You are correct Gogi bhai. Loose fitment might not help much. Ol time cars used to have tightly wound leather rope? around the springs. These used to protect as well as retain the lubrication.

How will these keep muck away? Once the Jeep enters slush, Slush will enter through the openings and in fact will remain there. I would think a more effective and cheaper way would be to put cling wrap around the springs. Will definately keep the muck away and its so cost effective, no washing etc. just remove, throw, spray the leafs with water to wash the muck, lubricate, wrap again and away we go. Of course i may be completely wrong here.

Fazalbhai, apart from looking neat, how do they help in offroading? Im really not aware and would like to know if im missing any technicalities here so need to know whether i should or should not get this done for my Jeeps.
Gogi Bhai,

Slush, loose gravel, dust, sand, mud etc. are all a part of off roading.
Now this cover does not help a bit in off roading, but as I mentioned they are "great for off roading" as they keep out all the above mentioned stuff to an huge extent. They are not water tight or 100% effective in keeping out the unwanted, but are better than nothing at all. Just increases your grease life in short.

After an OTR, remove them and pressure spray the springs, after a day when the water is out and springs dry put them back again. Use welcro on the entire length of the cover on the bottom end for easy removal and attaching.

Cling wrap is a nice idea but it does not stand a chance against scrapes on the move.

Jaggu,

A 2" wide welcro on the entire length is a good grip thing. Remember to remove them after an OTR, wash or in monsoons as they may do more damage than help, as they trap the moisture. It is only meant to keep out the dry and viscous stuff.
Regards,

Thanks Sandeep, for the pictures

EDIT: Also, can you list what performance items you've sourced for 2.5L from the USA? Maybe you could share the link with us?

EDIT2: The canvas cover on the leaf springs - how does it protect from dust, sand, water etc when the ends are exposed?
Please dont compare the Thar with the JEEP , please spare the kaiser .

Yes body work , paint job is much better than the Thar .It looks good because its a Kaiser American JEEP unlike the watered down cheap CJ7 copy..

Thar is leagues ahead on the road .
Well there is a long list , here goes

Replacement clear lens head lamps , parking lamps.
LED Tail lights and guards.
Steering wheel , Meters etc
Checkered sheet
Leaf springs
Body and suspension bushes.
Shocks and steering damper
Fender flares
Grab handles
Wiring
Winch
Fog lights
Side view mirrors.
Rear door
Wiper blades and arm
Carter YF carb
Oil filter
Radiator
Starter and other AUTOLITE logos
Snorkel head
Indicator assemble
Switches
Sirens
Jerry cans
Axe and shovels
Brand new FORD,willys MB,CJ2A JEEPS too.
In case of the M38 AND M38A1 we even get water proof wiring and delco , coil which alone cost 1.5 L.
And lots more which i cannot recollect .

Re: JEEPS of the Charminar offroad club

@Frankenstein, and the Charminar Offroad Club,

Thanks for sharing pictures of such works of art. The workmanship looks top notch, and an inspiration for builders everywhere.

Just curious, does Hyderabad have such well done examples of lifted, modded Jeeps as well? Would love to see some if you have any.

Though cosmetic, "Bra's", do also protect your hood paint finish from bug splatter and stone chips as well. I believe that was the original purpose.

Cheers.

The MM550 which i posted is modded, it has a 2" lift, 6 point roll cage , custom grill and dash , winch bumper and M/Ts.

Mods are done moderately since most of the JEEPS are original and rare.
There are a few though.

Re: JEEPS of the Charminar offroad club

On the same lines as gthang mentioned above, I also wonder why we don't see such works of art in Bangalore.

I know we have a substantial number of enthusiasts in Bangalore, but not Jeeps that look the way they are seen in the pictures on this thread.

Don't we have people in Bangalore who can restore to the standards that we see in this photographs?

I am on the verge of getting myself a Jeep, but I will not have the time to travel to Hyderabad to see the progress of restoration, and after seeing these Jeeps I have just raised the bar for myself

Hey Franky, do you know any restorer/designer who can do this kind of work in Bangalore?

Re: JEEPS of the Charminar offroad club

Frankenstein,

Thanks for putting up these pictures. After the horrendous M&M (Mayapuri & Moga) concoctions I have been seeing around in Ahmedabad lately, this thread has been such a relief. It really makes me look forward to visiting Hyderabad some day! Looking forward to some more Jeeps being featured here.

Few questions here:
1) Is Hyd largely about Jeeps only or do you guys have any exquisitely restored Landys also?
2) Have you run into a Kaiser with the 6-cyl Dauntless engine? Have unfortunately not seen one yet and would love to know more.

Cheers,
Adi

Re: JEEPS of the Charminar offroad club

Frankenstein bhai

What can I say! I am stomped beyond words!

Got my dad hooked to this thread today morning! He's still reeling from the attention to detail and originality of the parts.

Now my dad has been bitten by the 'acquire and restore' bug.

In his own words - 'Apan bhi aisa ek aad Jeep dhoondke original banayenge re'
('Even we should find an old Jeep and restore it to such prisitne condition')

Keep posting more for our drooling eyes!

Re: JEEPS of the Charminar offroad club

Thanks for sharing the snaps of Willys MB Frankenstein! Always loved the Willys MB for the simple yet bold design and the stance! My next favourite is the CJ3b and then comes the MM540. Just cant get enough of these beasts! I want one desperately!!! But...
