What's the size?

Recently I bought Yokohama Geolandar AT-S G012's for my Tucson (215/65R16) - Rs.8300 per tyre. BFG's were not available in Pune, but Geolandar's also look nice.

BTW, is BFG a Michelin brand? The tyre shops here told me this: "Oh BFG, that Michelin wala tyre! That's not available anymore."

Cheers!
Yes apparantly the imports of this sub brand of Michelin had stopped due to the ISI markings, so most of the dealers dint have it. I got this for 12k. i.e. The dealer paid me 6k*4 + 6.5k (unused spare) for my HT tyres and charged me around 8.5 for the BFG. Another Michelin dealer at Vashi also claimed to have them. He was charging 7.5k but was ready to pay only 4k for mine, so though this guy charged me more, the net deal seemed ok to me. Size is the same as the earlier ones - 235/70/R16.

Repositioning the huge billboard like number plate to the spare tyre. Yet to be completed. Posted the pic below.

Some more pics. Also pics of the places where the holes were left open after the seats were shifted. I have covered them with bolts.

Hi Nitin,

Any more updates on your Thar, read from manasm's thread that your first service was done, how is the car since. I'm hoping to get the Thar by early march 2012, so really looking forward to all of your ownership reports.

Do keep us updated

@OrtoPilot, the vehicle has been performing fine so far - before and after first service. Had some niggling issues for which I had already taken it to the workshop earlier so nothing in particular that was to be looked at for the first service. I shall keep you posted on its performance. Congratulations for your thar booking.

Re: Mahindra Thar Crde - home at last.

Changed the side facing benches to forward facing last row innova seats. The seats fold comfortably to either side making it easy and spacious for me to keep luggage/ take the dogs out etc. Attaching some pics.

Sitting at the back in few of the snaps are the ever helpful David (davidsmm550) and Sanjay (4*4Army).

Wow, the tyre swap makes a world of difference to the Thar! Not to mention trashing the hideous wheel caps. Nitin, nice work with the rear seats! Am sure the four-legged fellows would be grateful
Oh, the bullbar shows some heavy rusting in the pic of the bolted-up seat holes. Hope its given some attention.

Looking forward to reading your experiences as the miles pile on.

Cheers,
Rahul

Indeed, the tyres do change the look of the vehicle.

Yes, there has been quite a bit of rust and junk beneath the leather cover and the base plates of the roll bars. Poor quality from the M&M guys. Will need to touch up.

About the seats, the fittings were fairly straightforward.
Not much of cutting, breaking, drilling - Just one additional hole for fitting the brackets on the sides, on which the seats rotate.
I picked up the seats from kurla-CST road for 4k, they seem to have heaps of these seats. These ones were in good condition.
Fittings cost me 2k (maybe overcharged) but he had to fabricate new rods, brackets etc so din't bargain too much. So total 6k for the seats.
The seats are quite comfortable for 2 people at the back with some space for a 3rd person to squeeze in.

Seat covers would be next since this color is a mismatch right now.

I think they should - that guy had all kinds of seats, tavera/ innova being most popular. If I happen to go that side I'll try enquiring.

Their payment was a comfortable back seat long drive in the thar.

Sure, will measure it this weekend and let you know.

Thanks & regards,
Nitin

Re: Mahindra Thar Crde - home at last.

Excellent, looks cool. Get a good cover and fix some stickers on rear seats.

What surprised me was there seems enough play above the head. Also how is the leg space. Presume we can fix seat slight back to accommodate long legs.

Good work, looks quite comfortable.

Yes covers are next, just pondering over what color should I go for, since I would be fixing covers for the front seats too. Should I stick to black or change it for some contrast.

There is ample leg room at the rear, decent head room too, considering the models above and myself are 5'11+. There is enough room even to keep luggage front of your legs. The seats have been taken behind as far as possible, so when we recline the seats to the maximum it just about leaves a few cms from touching the rear flap.

I would get removable covers in different colors. One for off road and other city drive, one in leather/suede or cloth. colors as usual a presonal choice
