Re: Video : A Modified Mahindra Thar. H-O-T

Fantastic modification. Mahindra should have built the Thar on these lines rather than souping ip the MM550.

Some stationary images would be great.

So neat and cool mods. As GTO said all the mods are well balanced. Haven't seen any beautiful jeep than this. Well done.

That is one sweet looking vehicle. Very tastefully done. Lovely hard-top (Mahindra, you listening?).

Props to the owner.

Alao need to take into account that this guy has imported a lot of stuff to be fit on the vehicle. Taking these into consideration as well, the 5 lakh mark wouldn't be incorrect.

If that price estimate is indeed true and assuming actual price will be a bit lower than the one-off job, then this man is surely going to get a handsome number of orders from Thar & 540/550 owners.

Re: Video : A Modified Mahindra Thar. H-O-T

Dear all - I just now saw the You Tube video. The vehicle looks very nice as it is tastefully done. Congratulations to the passionate and sensible team which worked on it.

Unfortunately, there is no chance of something like this making it into production because the "business case" presentation would never justify the "tooling cost". . It is indeed a sad but true statement. That's why I made the vehicle using the existing body outer panels (everything else related to the body is off the Bolero platform), so at least the base vehicle saw light of day and at least this customer could buy it to convert it to whatever he wanted to do with it. Best of luck to him. Let's observe the durability / reliability results as the kilometers get logged on.

There are set work guidelines / processes to carry out even one-off jobs like this one and if done properly, they should work. The problem is, 99 guys out of 100 just do not do it properly. I can say this because I have seen this umpteen number of times. The moment "non-standard garage driven type of work" takes over, then everything goes for a toss. People wanting to get such jobs done on their vehicles must be careful to ensure that the right things are done so as to enhance the vehicle value, not erode it. Normally, the first casualty is BSR (Buzz Squeak Rattle). Then starts the cycle of endless visits to the "garage". I am not trying to be pessimistic, only realistic.

By the way, ABS is never an item which can be added on later!

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Re: Video : A Modified Mahindra Thar. H-O-T

hi all- the thar is beautifully executed but on second thoughts, thar crde costs 7 plus lakhs and another 5 lakhs ,12 lakhs?? dont think so it is 12 lakhs worth. the owner mentioned interior alone costs 1.10 lakhs, an innova[renamed lounge] modified by dilip chabria comes up to only,5 lakhs . thats some interior to be seen and mentioned, please google it for the pics.

The tyres and the alloys together , both imported, would add up to that.
The reverse lamps(?) resembles Amby's front park lamps of the 80's though these are LEDs.
