Hi Shyam,

The service interval is driven by odometer reading or months whichever comes first as per the owner’s manual.

For initial 10,000 kms the service intervals are at 1,000, 5,000 & then at 10,000 kms. After that it is every 10,000 kms or 12 months (whichever comes first).

However for fluid changes it varies as under:

1. Engine coolant is replaced every 20,000 kms or 24 months*
2. Engine oil & filter is replaced every 10,000 kms or 12 months* (My recommendation is 5,000 kms/6 months)
3. Spark plugs are replaced every 20,000 kms or 24 months*
4. Fuel filter every 40,000 kms or 48 months*
5. Air filter – Clean every 5,000 (2,500 for dusty conditions), replace every 40,000 kms (My recommendation is 20,000 kms)
6. Transmission oil/transfer case/differential oil every 20,000 kms or 24 months*
7. Brake Fluid every 20,000 kms or 24 months*
8. Camshaft timing belt every 100,000 kms

*Whichever comes first

Spark plug change interval is applicable if you’re using copper plugs, the change interval will be higher if you’re using platinum or iridium plugs.

Ideally whenever the service is carried out on the vehicle, there is a regime of inspections that need to be done such as tightening of engine bolts/mounts (every two years), checking hoses, valve clearances (every 20,000 kms), clutch pedal play, brake disc/shoe wear etc.

If you go through owner’s manual you will see the inspection intervals for various components laid down clearly. The key is to make sure that the workshop where you’re getting your car serviced carries those inspections/adjustments out which in my experience they seldom do.

jay3sh , sorry for the late reply . I still own my gypsy ! I must say my gypsy still owns me . Its going to be with me for ever . I will never sell it , now its my weekend vehicle . Its the only vehicle which always brings a wide smile on my face when ever i drive it .

As a general rule for all cars, time/distance whichever is covered first is the recommended practice. Consumables in particular degrade in time even if the kilometres haven't been racked up.

Now though I just give the car for an annual service that includes oil and filter change and brake inspection/cleaning, and a full inspection service as MASS terms it, every three years. That one includes changing everything that can be changed, except timing belt/tyres/battery. I find this easier to remember. And the Gypsy isn't fussy that it needs more attention than this, I find.

Just to be more specific, i got the car on 29th April

I did my first 1000km service at 935 Kms

As of today i have done 3300 Kms, which is exactly 5 months from date of purchase

Assuming i dont complete 5000 kms in next 3-4 months when should i give the car for the next service?

When does the manual say the second service should be done? There must be a time as well as kilometres, whichever is earlier, statement. Follow that recommendation.

Please stick to recommendations in user manual (km run or time elapsed since last service), despite what the MASS guys tell you.

If you want to use the free service coupon, you need to stick to the manual specified dates or kms. Dealers will accommodate couple of weeks, more than that they will throw the rule book at you. The second service as far as i remember is basically a check up service, does not even have oil change. So worth doing it at 6 months? time frame as per the manual.

Even I want to know that. The site says many things which may be theoretically correct - hardtop, different colours etc, but reality is some thing else.
