Re: MM550 XD NGCS - The War Horse

Hi Sreejesh,
Now you can proudly say that you achieved what you wanted from your Jeep. As now you have almost (remember, we never complete 100% of what we want to do on our Jeeps) finished mechanical upgrade, i can ask you one question.
Why you chose this engine over others avaialble:
1) DI TC
2) Nissan BD 25
3) Isuzu 4FG2 TC
4) any other engine which you might have though of

There are many people, who are blindly putting DI TC in their Jeeps beacuse most others have done so. It would be interesting to know, why you didnt go for a conventional/easy swap.

Regards,
Shubhendra

Re: MM550 XD NGCS - The War Horse

Hi Shubhendra Ji,

You are right this wish list never going to end.

I have a bolero with Mdi TC engine. MDi TC is a good engine but not for my kind of for on road driving. in BAOTR MDis ruled.

BD30 is the engine I was almost finalized to buy. Then SV Santhosh told one scorpio engine is available almost same price as BD30. But last minute discussion with Sandeep & Biju Elias I decided to try my luck on that Gear drive engine. BD30 is good. very good torque delivery almost on all the rev bands but Its not as rev free as SD25 thats what I heard.

Isuzu engines I never considered cos they are costly and I was just looking for engine with 20-25kg torque & 80-100 bhp power. I uses NGT520 which can handle max 20kg (spec) torque. If I go for Isuzu I think it is must to have heavy GBs.

The other engine I considered was Cummins ISF 2.8 I send them a mail regarding my requirements and they respond very next day with all most all dealer numbers and I got calls from 2-3 dealers finally from My home town itself. But they need complete details of the GB,Chassis, Pollution etc,etc.. & roughly the price will be around 5L.

http://cumminsengines.com/showcase-i...specifications

see the weight of the engine. I am sure It will not be like our CRDes because Its Cummins, they know torque better than anyone.

MDiTC is VFM engine and it never die . You can get Very good engine for 70-80K and Almost new engines for 1L range but a SZ2600 Plus engine will cost min 75k for starting condition engine means, It need a rebuild to get the expected performance. In my case I was lucky enough to get that Chain drive in cheap. and putting a SZ2600 on our C section chassis will not be a good idea in Offroad especially in rocks.

For a normal on road/ off road use MDi3200 TC is enough for 550/540s There was one NGCS with MDi3200 TC in BAOTR that too performed well.

Hi Sreesjesh,

you can also try tempo traveler rear shocks. I have installed them in my 550 after reading a recommendation on this forum only. IIRC Arka had posted it somewhere. They provide much better damping and are a bit longer also.

Your ride has come out fab with each mod is thought out in detail and executed in one go without any trial and error.

Please post details about the rpm meter and its connection.

cheers

Vishwas,

I selected my Shocks from this list posted By Jaggu .

MM550 XD NGCS - The War Horse-shock-absorber-info.jpg

550 NGCS OE shocks itself is heavy duty with good damping. Few of my friends also suggested me to put Traveller Shocks But I went for the most suitable shocks from M&M list itself which satisfies the Max & min travel of my custom leaf spring set up.

That RPM meter is from Tata Cummins Rs 1240.00. as I have scorpio alternator in my jeep the connection was easy (550 alternator can be modified to get rpm Signal ).

The meter has a voltage rating of 12-24V . It has 3 connections.

1. + 12-24V
2. Signal from alternator
3. - Ground

Tested on track at Kottayam (Not going to the Event details ).
Jeep performed well even though my driving was not good . Need to learn the proper combination of Torquey engine & narrow Tyre .

Sreejesh Ji,
Its good that your jeep has survived even after few OTRs, it tells a lot about structured process followed by you to achieve such end result.
One question - are you happy with articulation ? i may be wrong but just by looking at pics i am under impression that articulation is still not par with older generation chassis (k-member).
would love to be proved wrong though !

Thank you Shubhendraji.

You are right Still the articulation is not up to expectation. I have done all my known ways to get the max but no luck on Front. Rear Its fine with Thar Leaf springs and longer shackles. Now waiting for the new type front leaf spring .

Jeep is going for a major upgrade . I am selling NGT520 4WD and NGCS 53" right offset Diff.
1. NGT 530GB or BA10

Sreejesh Ji,
Are you sure you want to move to BA10 from NGT520? last evening i was discussing below configuration with Arka
Scorpio gear drive engine, BA10GB and BW TC (manual shifter)
Arka explained very nicely on the shortcomings of BA10 and its fragile nature. Just wanted to let you so that you make an informed decision.
