Work in progress. It's really good. Should be ready soon. I will share final pictures instead of work in progress. It's a lot more complex to make than a standard frp hard top. There is literally a skeleton of iron from the inside which makes the whole structure one, & extremely tough. It's almost like a proper metallic hard top. Since it has a single metal door at the back it makes the alignment & stabilisation even more critical. The whole thing will be welded together and then a paint job will be needed on many parts. I am also putting Scorpio seats with arm rests in the front & the original front seat at the back (only one).

Work in progress still! As I had mentioned, it's a very detailed process unlike the normal market frp hard tops. I have been going regularly to the Mahindra Customisation workshop to see the work. I think it should be ready within a week max. But I must say that it's coming along really well. I can see it as a really tough, rugged & absolutely weather proof structure.

Hey Avigo,
Nice! I have a couple of questions though:
  1. Is that open section on either sides of your rear door (C pillar) be covered with glass? If so, which other vehicle has such a curved glass?
  2. With the dimensions of those windows at the sides and rear, did you check if they match with any other vehicles?
Nevertheless it indeed is looking nice.
Cheers,
Deepak

MODs: Posting this in new post so that you can delete or move to other thread if not appropriate in this thread.

My friend have made a FRP hard top for Thar here in Pune, the design is purposefully made to look like soft top for those who wants to retain the soft top look and utility.

This is the first HT in FRP he made and the following are the WIP images, the HT looks much better in actual. Sun film is braking the sober look however that was the owners choice.

I am working with him for different design for my HT which will be short in height and 30 degg incline C pillar like bolero. I am going with metal HT so that the design can be changed at any time.

Thanks,
Vishal.

Thanks a lot. Mahindra does not disclose the details of its vendors. So I don't know which vehicle size will match this.

Hi Thar4x4. The top is simple and neat. I think your friend has done a good job. The center console in the picture, is it the original Thar Accessory from Mahindra? Could you please post a clear picture of it?

I liked this one the best of all - it looks like the original and is understated and simple without trying to go over the top. Really nice job - if the quality is up to the mark I'm sure he's going to be doing a lot of business soon.

Yes sir, quality of FRP is very nice, he faced some issues with glass vendor but he have ordered glasses from other place now and next people will be much more finished.

Thanks,
Vishal.

Re: The most practical & best looking Hardtop - Mahindra Thar

Great stuff.
Is the manufacturer ready to sell it commercially now ?
If yes what is the price of the Hard Top and the Central Console, both look like good products.

Does the hard top have options for panels to open in the rear and front like Prabhu's model ?

Will he be ready to make a cabin for the Gypsy or does he already have one. I am looking for a Rally Cabin plus a custom centre console for my Gypsy. It would be great if you could let me know.

Thanks.

Raj
