Re: The most practical & best looking Hardtop - Mahindra Thar

Here is the requested side view (see a couple of posts above). If you look thru the side windows you see Dharamsala situated on the ridge. The front range begins here and there are some 12,000-15,000 footers just off camera to the right. Just over the B-post is the Dalai Lama residence. If you look closely, he is waving at you. He is the one wearing the Team-Bhp T-shirt.

Very nice looking Thar! I love the look of this hardtop and the general color combinations on your vehicle.

Few questions on the seats (Assuming you are in Punjab) -
1) What seats are those?
2) Where did you buy them from?
3) How much did you buy them for?
4) How difficult were they to install?

Thanks,

Re: The most practical & best looking Hardtop - Mahindra Thar

Seats are relatively easy to find. The problem is that the rear wheel wells get in the way and the rear area is already slightly higher than the front. This makes
headroom a problem. Also, it is easy to block vision out the rear window with
the headrests of rear seats. It's not impossible to do, I am just telling you two key considerations. How a passenger gets to the rear seats is another consideration, from the front or from the rear door.

If there is a will, there is a way .

Got the modifications done by Bimbra

Rear seats are from Scorpio (captain seat version)

Rear wheel wells were modified to allow adequate headroom

Re: The most practical & best looking Hardtop - Mahindra Thar

Two months ago I went down to Gurgaon, Gurugram, (No longer called by its previous names, Madras, Calcutta, Bombay, New york) and had Bimbra install one of their fiberglass
tops. See posts a little above here.

After a couple of rains, and today a 4 hour thunder bumper, an absolute deluge, the interior of my Thar is bone dry. Not even a drop. No leaks at all. Thank you Bimbra! Your picture is on my piano.

I'd like to see a pic of that!

What about squeaks and rattles? All fine in that department?

A couple of squeaks at the back door but, opened it and closed it, relocked it, the squeaks disappeared. There is another squeak along the rear left side that comes and goes as the temperature fluctuates. It's not bad so far. I will continue to monitor.

Re: The most practical & best looking Hardtop - Mahindra Thar

My biggest issue with fibreglass tops has been the flexibility and holding up against some serious body twists and then the squeaking and squealing. If I remember clearly, that is what Late Sir BD had mentioned for not getting a FG hard top for the Thar. Open to correction though.

Some of the older OE Mahindra jeep tops were said, by B.D. , to squeak horribly and I seem to remember others saying that, also.

I recently attended to my Bimbra top which was squeaking a bit. A mech adjusted the rubber molding at the rear door ever so slightly. For free. Now, zero squeaks, none after 6 months use, and chicks dig me.

I got in touch with Bimbra, they directed me to Vin 4x4 Hardtops and called them their Bangalore dealer. The mould for the fibre glass is from Bimbra but the FRP hardtop is fabricated by Vin 4x4
