I am confused that's why asking. if this is the case, then 7.00x16 makes sense.
While we are talking about it, one more question - 7.00x16 is available by speedways in 8 ply only whereas preferred ply rating is 6. is it Ok, if i go for 8 ply tyres or it has to be strictly 6 ply?

ahh.. more than ply rating do check how these tyres last. What i have heard is they wear out fast onroad, though good for offroad. 6 to 8 ply is not a very big deal if you ask me otherwise. Yes it will have harder sidewall and will offer less flexing and hence more choppier ride. One thing you can do is to run a little lower pressure. Maybe the guru's can throw more light to this?

Wearing out is not my concern, i dont think we will be able to run more than 1500 kms in an year.
My Ford runs around 800-900 kms in an year.

Update: Work as usual is standstill, while waiting for mechanic to sort out the issues we found out that few spares have gone missing during last 6 months. they had been misplaced either by our mech or our guy who used to deliver these spares as and when required.
few of these spares are small but critical and search is ON in garage, few homes, offices
In the meantime, i bought few more small but significant parts for this Jeep. i was in Bombay to buy few spares for few of my Jeeps when i got the chance to buy these miscellaneous spares as well

1) 1970's BWP spark plugs (made in England). A gift from fellow jeeper from Bombay 'Harshil Vithlani'

let me think these are oil/liquid filled ? Ummmm then proof from some static charge or metal ? Check with a large piece of metal near it if it moves.

Your jeep is coming up nice. Those NDMS will complement the classic look.
How much did you pick the trepador and gypsy rims for? From Delhi?

cheers

Gypsy rims were going for 1150 brand new last I checked. Old ones should be roughly 50% of the cost depending on condition

cheers

Re: Barn find – 1959 Willys CJ3B

A very kind gesture from fellow T-Bhpian (Declutch 4x4). He had bought ‘4 Wheel Drive’ stencil from US of A sometime back and decided to gift me. That parcel also contained few visiting cards of three e-commerce web sites, which I think can be useful to someone looking for parts for their old Willys, Kaiser, Ford etc.
Thank you Deepak Ji !

Another update: Jeep is mechanically perfect, fitted with new tyres and rims and running beautifully. We only need to procure a petrol tank and rear half of silencer. But enjoying free flow sound though during a jungle trip last month couldn’t locate a single big animal due to growling noise of Jeep. Paint and other finishing touch is not started as we are trying to restore recently acquired Bolero 4x4 for its maiden 5000 kms trip to deep jungles of Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

Need help. I need cable and remaining assembly for hand brake. I bought hand brake lever during one of my trips to US. Thus now i have hand brake lever and brake drum. It would be great if someone can point me where can i procure, cable and other allied parts to make this handbrake work.

Re: Barn find – 1959 Willys CJ3B

@Shubhendra

Good to see finally the last few parts falling to place.
The transfer case drum brake is very effective, but as soon as the lube oil finds its way into the drum it will just not be able to work. I have tried various methods to prevent the oil entry but none worked. I don't mean to discourage you, Please use some good quality oil seal and hope oil doesn't seep.

Most likely a compass, IMHO. But (from the photo) looks too far gone, does it work? Did you try walking around with it to see if it the needle moved?

Even i believe its a compass. yes, needle does move when you place it here and there.

Dear Mr. Chengappa,
Thank you for input. AS GB and transfercase have been assembled and run for few hundred kms without leak, hope they dont leak in future. As you have insight on this topic, can you please tell what parts i need to make handbrake work ?

Regards,
Shubhendra

Re: Barn find – 1959 Willys CJ3B

Hi Shubhendra,
Nice progress on your 3B.

I have a similar J Handle with cable that I am yet to fit on my Jeep. Will take close up pictures of cable and post this weekend or earlier. Some pics came be found here: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-ve...ml#post1156817

I am sure you have read this, but if you have not this link has explained the brake system well: http://www.film.queensu.ca/cj3b/Tech/BrakeCable.html
