re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

The front frame support has been welded in along with the frame for the front folding platform for increased space. Also the side wooden support has been framed in for the plysheet to be fitted just like a bedbox top.

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

With the weather Gods being benevolent and a long weekend due to Bihu celebrations we took the jeep for an extended drive into Nagaland to Mokokchung and Lumami. Mokokchung like Shillong had its share of old swb but almost all were in run down conditions. All through the journey and at border checkouts got a lot of compliments from People and Police alike and they all liked the way the jeep has come out. Some pictures from the journey. Sorry but the first day we had gone topless but so enjoyed the drive that forgot to click the pics. Later on we had rain constantly and hence the hood was put in place.

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

The trailer bed is complete and the ply sheet is hinged on the sides and opens along the centre line to enable access to the lower storage areas.
On the jeep front, bought a nylon camo net off aliexpress and am thinking of using it as a canopy during the summers. Shall fix it and see how it fares.

The carpentry works are almost over and the trailer is complete as far as the basic framework mods go. The front right side ply is fixed and shall be used to fix a hanging platform in the inside while the left front side ply shall fold down to form a working tabletop. The pictures:

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

Dear Wanderernomad - I do not remember if I had mentioned before, in any case, here goes: Mr. K S C Parthasarathy will be very happy to see the trailer. He was the person who was in charge of R&D at Mahindra Owen where the trailer was made. Then he shifted to Mahindra Kandivli. He was my boss when I joined as a trainee in 1980, so I know. Unfortunately, I don't have any contact with him now.

Best regards,

@WN:- See to it that your expedition trailer does not become top heavy.

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

He has my gratitude in designing a fabulous trailer. It tows true and straight. By any chance can the diagram or layout for surge brakes be sourced from somewhere. As of now am relying on various layouts for bantam/willys WWII images for the same.
Sutripta da, advise taken, no weight above the tub line except the ply sheets. I aim to keep the trailer as light as possible above the jeep body line mark.

re: A Mahindra CJ500 DP and a custom made Expedition Trailer

The headlights were not working and when i checked one of the bulbs had gone black and other had the contact point solder coming off. Replaced both the bulbs but the low beams still do not work, when I switch to high beams only one works. Should I change the holders or the push pull switch as low beams and parking are through the push pull switch while the high beams are through the stalk on the steering. Thanks.

Rains and Tea Gardens mean a time for slush, drifts and 4x4 opportunities. Besides getting drenched in the rain. Some pictures from the Sunday fun.

CL500 body on a NGCS chassis

Hi Guys,

I have a query, Today I purchased a Scrapped thar DI that had met with an accident from a known friend. This vehicle is without papers since it has been scrapped.

The whole Idea behind purchasing this vehicle was to procure the engine, Gearbox, break assembly, clutch assembly and the 4wd diffs and fit it on to my 91 Model CL500 3 speed DI 4wd on the existing ladder chassis.

All these parts mentioned above are in great shape. Now I had this idea of getting rid of the existing ladder chassis from my 91 DI and mounting the body onto the NGCS of the thar DI.

Is this possible? Do the dimensions match? I am aware that modifications will be required to the CL500 body.

Re: CL500 body on a NGCS chassis

Scrapped means, has RTO provided the Scrapping Certificate or is this just another logical crapping by Insurance, wherein the papers are locked away.

The reason I ask is, by rule, If RTO provides the scrapping certificate, they damage the vehicle so that it cannot be road worthy again

Anything is possible! Only worry will be the Money that you will spend and the right set of hands for the Job, if done right you definitely will have a one of a kind machine. Thar DI does share similar ancillary parts.

Check this link http://www.fuelarc.com/comparison/ma...c/thar-di-4wd/

Give's you good idea what are the dimensions that you are looking at?
