Pre-owned: Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota RAV4 or Landcruiser?

Asking on behalf of somebody.
All the vehicles in question they are looking at are around 2008-2010 vintage. (Pathfinder maybe a bit newer).

The criteria is river fording. Articulation etc,. not needed, but river fording in stock vehicle without any snorkel etc.,(About 600-700mm height of water).

LC can definitely do it, and has done the said crossing many times, but its out of budget.

Do you guys have any idea about the RAV4 and the Pathfinder?

Three different classes of vehicles. Rav4 is a softroader. Pathfinder is not so tough as the Patrol, and I read somewhere that the wading depth is only around 450mm. LC or a Patrol class vehicle is the best bet for rough use or offroading through water. FYI the smaller Toyotas - including the Prado (and Fortuner) - have a higher wading depth ~ 700mm.

RAV4 and the Pathfinder?
in India ? probably very low chances of finding these , options cane be Pajero SFX - old one

In case your question is for US / Canadian market - 4Runner is the vehicle to pick for such usage

Suggest to remove RAV4 from consideration, its not an offroader and may not be suitable for more than the basic offroading.
No idea about other 2 vehicles.....

RAV4 is 2.4 ltr and based on a corolla platform. soft offroad vehicle with no practical offroad capabilities, more of a ladies daily drive.

Pathfinder comes in 3.5/4.0 ltr engine, is a medium sized ladder on chassis based vehicle (similar to old 4Runner) but the current one is more of a family vehicle rather than a offroad vehicle. I would recommend the older models with 3.5 ltr gasoline engine.

LC, if out of budget, I would suggest a Pathfinder any day or try a used Nissan Xterra.

What about the Gymny? It has low range like our gypsy, right?

Jimny is a smoother version of Gypsy but not as rugged.
Old PATHFINDER was based on Nissan pickup chassis like Fortuner.
What about GV or Fortuner?

No fortuner, but GV available. But GV eats fuel quite a bit. I will suggest him GV I think. Will do offroading like a pro. Then there is another option Mitsubishi 4x4 LC200 truck(2 persons) with 2500cc diesel engine. Good one, right?

If its Iceland, then its a very simple choice....Hilux diesel 3.0 ltr.

And look no further.

Older 4Runner is heavy compared to the weight and power ratio and I wont advice for it, its a good choice for North America as it came with a 3.4 ltr petrol engine and its based on a prado and not on a pickup.

Even an old Landcruiser 80 series it will come in cheaper within the budget a more capable offroader than that is yet to be built.
