If they do not give feed back how do we use them in off-road situation as well. Please shed some light on this as I would like to have myself prepared for rectifying any doubts I might end up in before getting in action. Also I would like to use him for on-road average speed cruising as well [60-80 kmph].
Hi,

The steering wheel and the tyres does not have any physical connection. The steering wheel - then its hydraulic pipes instead of the steering column. In offroad too they dont give feedback.

The problem is with speed, they become too sensitive, and very dangerous.

Re: Never thought I'd build a Jeep! My MM540 story

Hi Manveet. That's a very capable jeep that you have built.
I was and still am an avid but silent follower of your Thar thread. Got to live and feel the essence of building up your own vehicle as per your own tastes and requirement from your threads. I also got to know various technicalities involved from both your threads as well as the inputs put in by other experienced seniors.
Can you share the info about the rim of your and tires of your MM540? A link to the alloys dealers site would be most helpful, just like you had posted in your Thar thread.

Regards.

Thanks a ton, some more from the same event. The first three are from Mahindra posts on FB, and next two taken by myself.

Re: Never thought I'd build a Jeep! My MM540 story

It's been a long time, I haven't posted here. No real change to the Jeep between Dec '15 and Aug '16, except addition of doors to maintain OTR-compliance status.

It however went through a major upgrade in Sep-Oct, more on that later tonight.

Meanwhile, a few photographs and prisma'd pics from June 2016, just for eye-candy ..

Re: Never thought I'd build a Jeep! My MM540 story

A couple of more pics of my Jeep from last week of November. Leaf spring suspension has been replaced with a multi-link coil spring setup. Could not get time to offroad with this new setup due to time constraints. However, the Jeep now goes under the knife once again for some major body-work - chopping off the front and rear overhang - about 14-16 inches combined. This in addition to the already shortened wheel base.

OT Edit: my Thar was replaced by a Fortuner, seen here in the last pic.

Re: Never thought I'd build a Jeep! My MM540 story

Update: Rear Overhang Chopped Off. Almost final.
POA: Once done with the rear, we then turn it around and work on reducing the front overhang. That will be more complex considering location of steering box, radiator, etc.
The oil based air filter will be replaced with a paper air filter, will also be adding a snorkel and relocating the exhaust pipe higher up behind the b-pillar.
The Hella's go into the headlight, and in turn will be replaced by LED work lamps. Also ordered LED tail lamps and indicators from AliExpress.

Re: Never thought I'd build a Jeep! My MM540 story

As you can see, the Body is work pretty much done - Snorkel and Exhaust is due. Also, finer aspects and finishing is taking time as it needs to be prepped for a long pending professional paint-job.

After completion it should look like something in the pic below. Any comments or inputs most welcome.

It looks awesome! I hope you will be adding a winch. Recaro seats, SS shovel on side and LED light bar will be useful and they will add to the character IMO.
