Can you provide some detail around hydraulic clutch conversion for KMT90 transmission ?

Thanks!

Hi,

You need:
  • Clutch master Cylinder, pedal kit & reservoir.
  • Slave Cylinder
  • Clutch Fork.
  • Plumbing
You will need to make a hole in the bell housing and a clamp for the slave cylinder to sit properly, and to push the fork.

Doing a good job in a KMT90 transmission will depend on your mechanic.

Also, there isnt much of a difference by converting it into a hydraulic clutch. There is, but, not to justify the effort put in. So, I would suggest to replace your pressure plate, and put in a new clutch cable and try first, then move on.

One disadvantage of the Hydraulic Clutch is during offroad, it can get hit and you will lose the clutch. The cable clutch is better in this aspect. I have however, placed my slave cylinder higher up to avoid this.

Re: The Jeep - MM540XD Transformed!

Got new set of Maxxis CST - CL18 Tyres. 35 x 12.5 x 15. They are the perfect size I wanted, which wasnt available in Silverstones.

Each tyre weighs 27kgs. Which is pretty good (light), considering the purpose.

Re: The Jeep - MM540XD Transformed!

without power steering is it easy to steer the 35" tires?
Are you using rigid axels? if no at any point of time did you feel the need for it.

How is on-road behaviour with such massive GC?
some times i feel height adjustable suspension are better for both onroad and offroad use.

Hi,

Yes, I have rigid axles and no power steering. Well, on road there is absolutely no requirement for power steering, but then, I have retrofitted a bolero camper box (MRCBT) but modifying the chassis radiator cross member. But, offroad, you definitely need power steering. Till date, I didnt fix it due to the fact that power steering enables the early failure of tie road ends, which is the worst offroad brake down.

With the suspension tuned for off-road, its very difficult to drive at speeds on road. Again, in todays scenario, maintaining a vehicle for both hardcore offroad competitions, and for road is impossible.

Re: The Jeep - MM540XD Transformed!

So, the Jeep has been to Goa - The Mahindra Club Challenge and back. Some pictorial updates from Goa.

Performed flawlessly. A couple of issues with starting motor. Rest as smooth as butter!

Re: The Jeep - MM540XD Transformed!

Hi, the transformation is into its next stage now..

I have sold my engine and gearbox to a Jeep in Bangalore.

The next upgrade the Jeep will be getting is a Nissan BD30 engine.

A teaser, more to come later:

Dhanushetta,

What's the present situation ? Hope your BD30 upgrade has completed with positive result. And by past experience, can we expect another Turbo modded heart for your ride ?

regards,
winsler

The jeep is not out of the workshop man. Work is still going on. This time its too damn slow. From July, I havent driven the Jeep.

An update is that the gearbox and engine is mounted. Unlike usual ways to mount a gearbox, this time, I've done it differently. I've taken it inside the chassis so that nothing stands out, and even if the vehicle is beached, a simple push is enough to get it out.

Here's a photo to get an idea. More build details will follow.
