Mounting a 31" spare tyre on the Maruti Gypsy

Hello,

I'm trying to mount the spare 31" MT Bighorn tire that is currently in the pickup bed (rally style) to the back of the tailgate.

There are two part numbers for this and I need help choosing the right one. I'm under the opinion one is for hardtop version and another soft top version?

These are the two part numbers.

72810M80022
72810M83000

My Gypsy has a rally cabin with open bed in the back with the tailgate.

I appreciate the help in advance.
Thank you!

Either one should be fine in IMO and I don't recollect having different one for soft top vs hard top.

The parts details on boodmo website says both are compatible. I looked ta pictures and both look same to me.

https://boodmo.com/catalog/part-carr..._tire-6792935/

https://boodmo.com/catalog/part-carr..._tire-6772630/

It says the cost is just 300 bucks, so, why not order both and use the one that works for you and return one or use it for some other purpose?

The weight of Tyre on Tailgate must be considered if the Tailgate is opened frequently as it may start to sag due to additional weight of the larger Tyre.

Which model is the vehicle? I think the difference is between old narrow model Vs newer wide-body one. Look at the mounting to the body in both pic and decide which one suits your vehicle.

Another option since you are planning to mount a heavier tyre would be to go for an aftermarket carrier also.

I would suggest a separate mount for the spare wheel, which is anchored on the bumper and body. You would need to get it fabricated, and while you are at it, get a high mounted stop light as on the wrangler, for aesthetic look.

This should be sturdier than the flimsy Tailgate.

If you mount a 31" size tire, the gypsy rear gate hinges will start to rattle very soon. Even with stock tires they start to rattle in a few years due to worn out pin in the hinge.

Rear original gypsy door wont be able to take the load. Either use custom mount and bracket else add one more hinge (workaround and may not last long)
