Re: Trax Gurkha Test Drive on Horrible roads and Off-road too

Extremely nice review !

I may never get to actually drive 1 of these - but this was a good experience.

Sometimes makes you feel nice, one of the best SUVs this side of 10L is Indian - just like so many others.

But this 1 really felt special - but after reading through everything -
Especially the LONG LONG delivery period

&
the utter lack of any creature comforts - truly its not worth paying only for the Engine & Ruggedness !

But still - worth keeping as an option - whenever someone mentions an SUV !

My cousin still owns this Gurkha, which he stills takes to occasional offroad events. But most importantly, he uses it for everyday commute in Bangalore, in roads that need 4x4.

Hi Sharath,

Does your cousin tell you about his maintenance experience? Has he had trouble getting parts for his Gurkha? My guess from that clip is that he is going to need suspension parts on a regular basis.

I am 4-5 hours away from the nearest Force shop that handles Gurkhas. There are Force shops close by me that handle Travelers but they say they won't service or sell Gurkhas. This strikes me as an oddity. Service/parts has stopped me cold so far from buying a Gurkha.

While my RC renewal was a very smooth affair, his was not smooth at all. The RTO inspector refused to even inspect the Gurkha saying it is heavily modified. My cousin had to pull out the user manual and show the inspector that the vehicle came out of the factory like that. The inspector was very baffled that such a vehicle has existed since 15 years. Eventually, it passed.

As my cousin lives in Australia these days, the Gurkha was not started since 3 years. However, using an external battery, it started at first crack after checking the diesel tank and the pump. He is already travelling between Mangalore and Bangalore driving the Gurkha.
