Since my last update, the engine was worked upon again to remove some glitches. The power steering works like a peach...Im told but i need to test that myself and since I was out of town for a few days, my mechanic took upon himself to sort out the small irritants that I would have pointed out and asked him to rework on anyways. (hes used to my obstinate ways of getting things done to my satisfaction)


We can see the sheet metal work finished. The engine out again, for finishing



The finished split windscreen was temporarily fitted, to make sure ther are no hindrances in its operation, even without the rubber.



The rear tailgate fitted to check operation. Would have personally liked the fluted ones with a "JEEP" stamp but could not get my hands on one. So Ive now asked him to add on flutes as in the old IWlly's with a blank stamp plate in the centre.
Also the chain clamps will be added



The wrong holes in the dash have to be filled in after the meter placements are done.




I would need and appreciate all the advice Gurus can give me. If there is anything not going right please advice me so i can mend it now.

Also, a word about the tail gate and attachments like the Pick, Axe, Jerry cans, i.e their placements and from where to procure the right stuff (or design /pics) so i can get the handles made here.

So im all ears and eyes, UBSji, Behrambhai, Samu, Gotzuk, Arka, Parm and all you Jeep guys fro your inputs...Lets have them.

Seems like its been long since you have been online. When can we come and see your jeep?? Also, are you sure that you are going to put things like the Pick and the Axe?? Coz the tend to ruin the butch looks of a jeep!

Another set of great restoration pics; can visualize the transformation. Can you please share a bit more details on the power steering part: the specs, sourcing, fitting and cost aspects. DD has started a separate thread on PS in jeep, may be you can post there also.

Good to see the jeep progressing..

Though I am not a big fan of pinning lots of agricultural tools
on the jeep, a shovel and pick axe, attached tastefully should
look okay.

The spare tire mount could be the swing away type as found on the
the mahindra c3b and the jerry can mounted on the tailgate itself on the
right side. Also plan to reinforce the tailgate on the inside, where the jerry can is mounted ,
by welding an extra piece of sheet metal. Will try and post some pics soon
or maybe somebody who has detailed pics of this area can post.

Also do get a blackout driving lamp to mount on the right fender,
looks killer, imo . The bumper mounted small blackout lights can
also be used as auxiliary driving lights just by removing the metal shield
on the front, like in the pic. Placement is personal choice though..



Btw, what kind of soft top are you planning for your jeep?
I personally favor the scissor action top bows, they are easier
to set up and don't need extra stowing space.

However, if you go this way, you would need to get the mounts welded and the
mounting holes lined up before getting the jeep into the paint booth.
See this pic, i found this on jeepthrills i think, you can the see the top bows
in the installed position in the slot on the side. (Also visible is the BO light on the fender.)


I will be happy if any of the insensible things i have posted above are of any help..

is there any possible configuration of the scissor top (or its modification) which will enable covering the side also apart from the top (assuming the doors are in place)? Was just wondering whether something like this can be done in the 540's. Indeed this will be very simple arrangement to accommodate a soft top. Will save space and money both.

There are detachable side canvas pieces and canvas doors which
can be affixed to the cj3b to cover the sides. since the 540 already
has a B-pillar and doors, all you need are the side pieces in addition
to the single piece canvas top for the top and back.

Something like this? Since it has transparent parts in it, it has no blind spots either.

@gotzuk These are present in the later mahindras. I am not sure if it was there in gogis version. Its some sort of air inlet to the legs.
Can be pushed open from inside and closed by pushing from out

I asked this question because these were not present in the initial
pictures posted by V-16. Have a look...


And AFAIK, these vents came into being on the later CL series jeeps
by M&M and were not present on the CJ series. And since the jeep in question is a CJ3B, these vents should not be there.
Please correct me if i am wrong.
