Impossible to offer a basic 4x4 for 3.5 - 4 lakhs, those days are long gone. My Classic - exshowroom - in 1997 was tagged at Rs. 345,904 (without insurance etc.). On the road was about 371,xxx. Consider inflation over 10 years and the fact that these are extremely low volume vehicles, a similar Jeep wont sell for less than 5.5 lakhs if made today, which is in the region of what a Major retails at. But then, the Major enjoys economies of scale, while a competent 4x4 is part of a niche segment.

Not a patch on modded CJ's and MM540s. But from all the custom cars on that website, I'd take the Inspira. Its pretty good looking.
Someone mentioned that the Inspira comes with the 63 horse DI engine. Well, I am sure that you can get it with the Bolero XD3P BSII engine if its being registered outside of the big cities.

utter disappointment for me after getting that email from M&M. i dont even feel like replying back and showing my disappoitment to them.
just want to wait for Bolero Commando and if that too is a disappointment, then im off to buy an army 550 and convert into a sexy CJ7, both for off and on road.

This thread took me down memory lane, to the times when you could actually walk into a local showroom and put your deposit for a beautiful brandnew Mahindra CJ 4x4.

I guess you are from HP. Can you please do me a favour. I saw one Gypsy in a magazine which was outfitted with a snow track. It had some HP34 registration.

Yes i have seen that article about the snow track Gypsy. If i remember correctly the Gypsy is turbocharged and it's done up by a Aussie.

Thats exactly what i want to know. It had oversized snow track. And bonnet was cut open to retrofit a fan. i wonder what engine it was running and how did he managed the drivetrain. Will find the mag and scan the image.
If I am not mistaken, I had read about that particular Gypsy on Auto India Magazine few months back. The guy who did this modification is originally an Australian. His name is Roddy Mackenzie.
P.S - The locals call him "Roti Makhanji". lol:
