In many cases such specimens even dont require off-road conditions for breaking up. I heard about some jeeps totally refurbished at Mayapuri (comparable to Dabwali jeeps) where either the steering wheel or the gear-shift lever has come out even in normal bad road conditions!

I have lost my appetite after seeing those ... seeing those..
I know , for each one his own taste. But why are they so rude on those jeeps (was jeep).

Hillbillies love these jeeps so there will always be a market for them.

Then you not a hillbillie in my books

Hillbillies tend to have money and very poor taste in everything.

LOL!! not like the beverly hills hillbillies! im broke and folks back home tend to have excellent taste when it comes to 4X4s. Stripped minimal and fully functional off-road abilities. We cant survive without them.

I am sure susan3004 meant well when he started this thread.
Like many others here I had no clue these bling bling jeeps existed.
I have seen a couple of them in Delhi but never gave them a second thought.

However having learnt to appriciate genuine 4x4 jeeps in their true avatars (akin to Arka, Aamir & Samuari's rides) ,...I would shy away from the Dabwali examples as they are purely meant to be show jeeps, and I personally feel they dilute the essence of the true jeep.

But who am I to be judgemental as there is a place for everything & I am sure Show jeeps have their place in the sun too like the over the top designs of some of the all chrome, and gold examples of low riders !!

But for me a jeep is meant to be a functional classic (that means 2 speed transfer case et all) The wheels need to be steel the way they were built and their tyres not necessaryly fat / phat or whatever !!!

But then to each one his own.

I recently read in an online article that there are close to one hundred dealers in Dabawali / Monga and each dealer sells at least ten jeeps every week.

Article link

Wow! thats a big Industry out there.

Hi

I live very close to Dabwali / Moga / Malout and other jeep markets in Punjab. Just 100 km MAX from these cities.

Well as you all know these Jeeps are real **** and work good for a year or two. After that they start breaking bit by bit.

The worst and first goes suspension. Jeeps tends to lower on one side and hitting 40 KM on turns could lead to overturning or the Jeep.

Engines work good as most of them are sealed, boxed Toyota d-turbo engines cost around 90K or so.

Braking - guess what, you hit the brakes and you feel like its out of control.

I have owned a MM540 DP, and driven many of these fancy stuff.

Rest of the review later.

No doubt Dabwali has emerged as a Jeep haven, but the kind of jeeps gettin ready there r a bit too bling for a Jeep. Jeeps should be raw and now colourful as if they r sponsered by zillion companies. The Cj3b itself is a rare now and the kind of modification happenin there is destroying the CJ3b class.

Haven ? Looking at some of the bling jobs I would say it is a concentration camp for jeeps.

I correct my words " Its a CJ3b graveyard " where a CJ3b dies only to be reborn as something that has no character and identity.

I guess the dealers do provide the papers, but highly doubtful whether they endorse the modification details.
