In the Northern part of U.S. and Canada the challenge is winters the likes of which most Indians can not imagine. The roads are snow covered and icy. Very treacherous. That is why most consider 4x4 there. A meter or even 2 full meters of snow and temperatures of -34 were common events where I lived in Northern New York State. That is how and why SUVs came to be popular there. Others in less harsh climates began to appreciate their ruggedness and ability as well.

I own LC200 for the past 6 months after disposing off my Jeep Grand Cherokee. The LC200 is fantastic and not very different from the LC100 (which I have driven extensively).

That said, I am talking about LC200 powered by a 4.7 lit V8 engine - the same engine used in LC100. Of course, the LC100 was also available with 4.5 lit inline 6 cylider - this engine is now discontinued for LC200.

Major differences between 4.7 l V8 - LC200 and LC100:
- Apparently a redesigned chassis
- Better tuned engine now producing 271hp in place of 260hp in LC 100
- Increased Torque of 3400 rpm (don't remember the figure for LC100
- Better transmission (automatic version)

Cosmetic and creature comfort items: keyless entry and push start engine, windshield antenna. Optional extras are of course available.

Features like Crawl Control, Hill start assist, are available in top-end model (not mine). This model compares with Merc G Wagen, Range Rover, etc - where you can apparently sit-back and let the vehicle drive on its own in crawl mode.

Guys i was wondering if i should go in for an LC 80 or the 100. both cars are second hand and diesels. i basically need it as a work horse to run 1500 to 2000 kms a week on both normal and rough roads and no roads. comfort for the long drives is important (got a weak back)and i wont say offroad capabilities as both cars are more than capable. cant decide as i like both and since i have the advantage of experts on board i thought i would as you'll. Advice please.

The 100 is extremely comfortable as a result of the independent front suspension. Would recommend it

If your primary use is for long distance travel over bad roads, 100 makes more sense due to the on-road comfort factor. 80 can be considered if you plan to do *hard* off roading. Though 100 will also do hard off roading, it will not be as good as a 80. I don't know if the 100 had a normally aspirated diesel option, but the turbo diesel is the preferred engine.

Gears,
Red-One.

i would also like your advice DKG. the car is a 2004 model and has done around 50,000 kms. the person is asking for 22 lacs for it. i know the owner and the car is clean and has no offroading or damage history. is it a good price for the car? the reason for sale is difficulty in climbing into the car. the owner is old. if i dont buy it he would give it to his relative.

thank you RedOne, the car is not going to be used for hard off roading. the road on the way to the factory is a blend of highway and rough roads.
yes the car is a Turbo Diesel. if i am to believe right the driver told me the car has night vision too. did the 2004 LC 100 come with this feature or option. so i guess the 100 it is.

MODS could you please merge both the posts. the edit was not opening. thank you in advance.

I think that's a great price and since you know the people and the genuineness of the mileage and car's history just don't hesitate.

I think it is a good price if you look at what Toyota is asking for the Petrol Prado and Mitsu for the Montero. The 100 is far superior to either of them.

A friend of mine just got a brand new V8 diesel TLC for 92 lakhs. So a four year old with genuine mileage at 22 is good value.

is that with registration and other formalities. i was offered one for 95 Lacs.
the 100 series if i remember right were available brand new for 45 lakhs when brand new so i was thinking the prices would be lower, say around 18 or 20 lakhs.

Will check and let you know if it includes the taxes and reg in Hyderabad.

A cousin of mine used a 98 100 and sold it for 22. So your car is a great deal considering its single owner and not through a dealer.
