Which Jeep do you think is the #1 Off-roader?

The Wrangler is the ultimate Jeep for Off-roading IMHO..

Hmmm why are the vehicles only from the Jeep brand? I would go with CJ preferably 7.

Overall Wrangler's have been voted the best Off-roading machines around the globe, thus the choices only from Jeep...and if we would have put the names of all the other brands, the list would have become endless and people would have got irrate if their fav brand would have been missed..

The poll was which Jeep - not which vehicle.

Sorry brother. Didn't mean to comment on your use of the word. I think you used it perfectly correctly. I made a general statement to mean that this particular poll is only for Jeep sub-brands and not for other vehicles.

Even though the jeep is not at all better than a merc g-class, the gaz, landy nor the 94 nissan patrol (leaving alone just open differentials, there lots more to it), but if its just about jeeps then my vote would be with the M38A1. It had reversed front shakles, that made the front suspension go over an obstacle rather than fight it. It had much better offraodability than any other jeep. It had the same short wheelbase as of Mb/Gpw/M38/CJ2a/3a/3b/5, so fitting in where other jeeps cannot fit was an added advantage. The engine was water-proffed and pressureized to go through 5 feet of water(that is when even the driver would be under-water). The only thing missing was unlike the wrangler ,it had a spartan military personnel only creater comfots.

well it seems i am the only one to vote for XJ; as i own one i feel its the only jeep which has a simple style with a touch of elegance, and is quite tame with a lot of Jeep toughness built in! The best combinations, in my opinion, for a true Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).

All Cherokee XJ's are of the "unibody" construction which simply means they don't have a full independent frame to which the body attaches separately. Instead the body and frame are integrated as one...unlike the Wrangler and all other "universal" Jeeps which sit on full frames. Comparing the venerable Wrangler's or early CJ's with the Cherokee XJ would be apples to oranges, especially in the category of trail Jeeps and off road prowess...however versatility is where the XJ shines through often head and shoulders above the "Universal" Jeep styles. Whereas the Wranglers and CJ's are out-of-the-box designed as off road Jeeps...they inherently lack a significant amount of functionality in cargo space and street manners.

Don't get me wrong here...the newer Wranglers have received tremendous improvements in both of these areas...especially with the longer wheelbased "Unlimited" models. (My opinion could have been bit different if the new JK was included in the poll). However, up until these recent improvements nothing in the Jeep line compared to the Cherokee XJ's ability to transform from a great street daily driver..to a weekend off roader..to an all out desert racing machine..and often back to a daily driver again.

Now that's versatility in a nice neat little package.
