One thing though. Why put the one big bench seat in the front and not two separate seats. Wouldn't have two bucket seats given it more of a better 4x4 jeep like character. Just my thought though...

The engine compartment also looks very clean. another thing cme to my mind though. When we see these new car engines they have a silver coating on them, which does not get worn out with time and heat. What is that and how much does that cost?

Also it would greatly help me and other like me who have a dream of owning a off-roader jeep, if you could post a short account of all the expenses that you incurred on the restoration of the jeep.

Nopes, its not a CJ3B, its a CJ 500D 4x4. My garage guy picked it up from a Forest Department Auction. The CJ3B / CJ340 / CL340 / Classic have 80 inch wheelbase, my JEEP's wheelbase is 91 inches.

Thanks for the appreciation. The Vitamin M factor prevented me from getting bucket seats / split seats as of now. I wanted to keep the JEEP in stock form without much changes. I will enquire about the Silver Coating and will let you know.

Since the work is not yet completed, I would not be able to quote anything properly as of now. For reference purposes, you can check the list posted by Arka elsewhere on the forums. I am copy-pasting it for everyone's benefit. Once I get my JEEP's final invoice, will surely scan and post it on the forum.

1) Chassis - 5-10K
2) Body 10-20K
3) Engine - 7-60K (B275 - XD3P)
4) Gbox & Tcase - 4-15K
5) Front Diff - 4-10K (Including Axle, brake drums, hubs spindles)
6) Rear Diff - 4-10K
7) Leaf Springs - 1-5K
8)Shock Absorbers - 1-4K
9) Paint - 5-10K
10) Electricals - 5-8K
11) Brakes - 3-8K
12) Tyres - 12-40K (including rims/wheel discs)
13) Soft tops - 2-10K
14) Steering - 3-10K ( Manual worm & roller or Recirculating ball)
15) Labour for Assembly - 5-15K

Now do the maths add the total and figure out what the JEEP you are going to buy has or does not have. A good functional JEEP cost Rs 1.5L to Rs 2.5L Depending on the accessories.

This is for both petrol & diesel engines.

Congratulations for a successful Jeep restoration. Your Jeep is looking really a JEEP in that Green color. Nice job done. (OT: BTW what are those pulley like things on the front windscreen frame?)

What does the Mahindra Dealers say about the front propellar shaft (If not available in 2nd's market)?
Also, IMO, if possible add a front grill mesh (Black colored- Just like Classic. will go well with those lamp covers)

Those pulley sort of things are to push the windscreen in the outward direction if one desires so. Sabareesh, your jeep has come out really well and I think with few modifications in course of time, this can be made to look exactly as classic and good that the garage guy wants to handover after checking the reliability himself.

I appriciate your clear thinking about what you expect out of your jeep. Keep it basic and functional, other cosmetic items like bucket seats etc can follow later.

7.00X16 NDMS with its larger Diameter & Circumference will help the B275 a lot.

Will be getting the 7.00X16 regularly from Jan 2009.

We have actually felt the ride improve with 7.00X16 NDMS on a variety of JEEPs.

You are restoring the jeep to OE specs, which is good for daily use.
Add bucket seats in front, if you want comfort.
the jobs done look very good, in terms of paint quality, and finish.

Thanks Arka, That was a morale booster. I am eagerly waiting for 7.00x16. As instructed by you, I would use the current set of tyres for some months and couple of OTRs.

Thanks Maddy, even I fell for that. I have decided to keep the Windshield down, It adds to the macho image of the JEEP.

Thanks for the appreciation shekaran, I won't be using this JEEP for daily use. It has been brought for Offroading. As and when time & my bank account progress, I would be modifying the JEEP for off-road requirements. Some of the things in my To-Do list are :-

1. Adding 7.00x16 NDMS Tyres
2. Adding a Steering Dampener.
3. LSD.
4. SPOA if possible. I am concerned about the high CG. Gurus Pls advice.
5. Electric Winch (Warn or Ramsey)
6. Skid plates for under belly protection.
7. Last but definitely not the least, a proper Roll cage & seat belts.

Dear Sabareesh - Congratulations. The Jeep has come out very well. Do not change tyres immediately. Also, please do not use 7.00*16 tyres. Use P215/75R15 radial tyres with corresponding wheel rims. I think present tyres should last you for some more time.
