It makes the vehicle one wheel drive during a turn, hence the understeer (inside rear wheel pushing against the turn). On a slick surface, like ice, when the inner wheel overcomes grip, there could be very violent (spectacular for some) transition from understeer to oversteer.

A locker on the front axle may make turning very difficult offroad.

Very useful input buddy!!

Hey Arka,

Somehow missed updates to the thread here and saw it recently. So you enjoying the locker :-)

take the turn with the clutch depressed, but that way when you disengage and apply power the lockers -- LOCK UP .

....
A minor adjustment that should take care of the 'clunk clunk' noise most of the time. However, this also means that people who don't have experience driving a locker enabled vehicle will find it strange driving it -- especially in traffic/turning. Be careful with who drives your vehicle as it may lead to undesirable results

Hi Shahnawaz,

The JEEP is now Point-and-shoot, anyone manages every climb, that is if they manage to point her right .

The Difference in OTR driving with a rear LSD vis-a-vis an autolocker.

1) LSD prefer a slower approach otherwise they open.

2) Lockers you can get aggressive

Regards,

Arka

Tpc09

Hi Guys,

I upgraded the radiator to a 4 core system just before TPC09, as there were overheating issues.

Finally I realized that the head gasket was blown as the compression would leak into the water jacket and boil the water, and had to replace that before the event.

some pics from TPC09

Arka,

Do something about your fender, wheels are fouling big time spoiling tyres and body work. Go for positive offset new rims. I know it is expensive to change PCD and all, but worth it as this is your daily drive. This will further bring the track to NGCS MM550 XD standards, will better ride quality and solve articulation issues.

Hi Vinod,

Postive Off-Set wheel-discs will not make too much of a difference, wrt fouling the fenders, but the suspension will improve.

The NGCS true to its name has different suspension and the front anti roll bar to prevent this kind of articulation.

I have added an box channel under the fender to prevent it from getting torn.

Regards,

Arka

Arka,
Which is stronger tyre or the fender? What will you do for tyre not getting torn?

Positive offset rims will provide room for additonal travel, surely they will touch but they will only under extreme ariculation. Anyway you need to change rims to avoid fouling even with a NDMS 6.00/7.00-16. You are highly unlikely to go for smaller tyre even if you pickup an exclusive off road set. They are touching outter fender (near indicator) hence the need to change rim. Your's is now fouling just with about 50% of reserve articulation! Check the last picture you have posted. Plus rubbing of tyre will add to the brakeing effect, loosing momentum.

p.s- Cost effective solution could be jacked up body beds. What say?

Ramp Travel & Articulation

Hi Guys,

Last Monday (26-10) Headers, HotRod & Sanjay David, met up at IGNITE to test Headers suspension upgrades on his MG413W.

Did a few test on my MM540XD and Sanjay David's MM540.

We did not take any measurements neither did we deflate the tyres.

Regards,

Arka

arka 1st pic,its clearly visible that the tires fouling with the wheel fenders. Am sure it would be bothering for a fact that he metal scrapping thru the rubber isn't a good sight . What do you plan to do about it ?

There is nothing simple that I can do.

The Forward Traction is hardly affected with the front LSD and Rear Locker.

The Fenders don't cut into the tyres as the re-tread is 12ply.

To tame the Streets , I have never been stopped for the No. Plate yet.

Besides I have 2 more sets for Sand & Mud.
