Arka, final tightening of all suspension components must be with wheels on the ground. As told by Sudarshan, it improves bush life and roll too! Try it next time and you will feel the difference.

Hi Arka, what would have been the chances of your Jeep rolling in the ditch sideways, had a lift (which on any Jeep can mean by the way of a shackle lift or an SPOA) not been undertaken on your JeepJJust my layman question since im wondering whether to do this on my MM550 which is going to be shod with 15"- 8.5J rims and 10.5X31" tyres.

Are you considering plonking a rollcage on to your Jeep? If yes what will it be, a 4 point or a six point?

Besides the broad Thar like stance, what good are the FC axels on a MM550?

Eh, Arka doesnt have any lift. Any lift, in theory, will increase the center of gravity, thus increasing the chances of roll over. Once I got the longer shackle, I immediately felt that effect on trails.

One thing I learned about longer shackles is that you only get half the lift of the shackle length used

for example if a vehicle uses a shackle length of 4" as standard & If you want a lift of 1" you will need to put a 2'" longer shackle than the standard & that means a 6" long shackle .

I don't think its worth it , using a 2" longer shackle for a mere 1" lift --- one can adjust his driving or improve skills .

Hi Gogi,

I don't have a Shackle Lift, maybe a shackle lift, would have improved articulation, but I doubt, it would have prevented the roll-over.

Since my JEEP is a daily drive and I use it for utility work a roll-cage will take away lot of useful room (Rear Seats & Wheel Arch).

If I were to install a roll cage I would go in for a 6 Point Roll-Cage.

The FC Axles will improve,
i) Stance,
ii) Cornering Stability,
iii) Axle Articulation
iv) Rear is FFRA
v) For the same knuckle geometry, there will be more room to move the tyres, and can translate to improved turning radius.

Hi Nikhil,

The FC Axles are fitted SPOA on the FC Van. However in JEEP Application we will have to weld the spring saddles and orient them as such.

Do you think they can handle 34" Tall Tyres, what about the additional weight of the tyres?

i dont think so, but have seen some 550 with 34" tyres.

Hi Guys,

The following work was done on my MM540XD, in anticipation to the Bangalore Annual OTR.

1) Servicing the winch (Motor was rewound and Carbon Bushes changed)
Works fine, does not heat up, but not yet tested under full load.

2) Re-Stitch the top with Ticket #20 Nylon thread (needle & bobbin)

3) Brakes & Hubs serviced

4) Paint Touch-Up

5) Serviced Injector Nozzles.

6) Changed the RTC Steering Damper Shocks to Amby type.

7) Changed clutch Plate & Cover Assy (Diaphragm Type). My clutch plate torque springs got cut while driving and for the first time my JEEP, had to be towed to the garage. Luckily it was on "Kaanum Pongal" and there was no traffic.

The Diaphragm Type cover Assy is smoother & comfortable to use, vehicle feels peppier & lighter.

8) the usual
i) Engine Oil Filter Changed
ii) Diesel Filter changed
iii) Engine Oil Changed (5ltrs)
iv) Air-Filter Cleaned
v) Clutch Linkage Changed
vi) Clutch & Brake Pedal Bush Changed.

The Tyres have been changed to Goodyear G90 7.50XR16 Radial LT (these are my MT usage Tyres).
Superb Grip and nice ride.

Please share the details of the Clutch plate and cover Assy. I am still searching for my 550. Your's is XD3P so there will be a step on the fly wheel So The same Clutch and cover assay will solve my problem (Right now my clutch and cover assay from MM- pik-up).
