Well the Nissan engine can be squeezed in, we took our guy all the way to chennai to check out the engine specs. Infact we had seen this same engine in Chennai while hunting for other jeep parts and so decided to get one for us too. We dont know exactly the formalities of importing are,we paid some 'guys' some money in Dubai and we got the engine in like a months time. I guess it came in as scrap.

Yes its a 2X2 and we are converting it into a 4X4, the navarra is 4X4 engine. Well we have our fingers crossed about mating the Mahindra box into the navarra engine, but we trust our guy, he is simply amazing. 4X4 is a must as we plan to do some serious offroading.

We also have changed the pedal alignment to the roof from the floor, its easier to drive like that.

It cost us 60k, we havnt kept a budget for the modifications. There is no point keeping a budget for modifications, it cannot be done within that as we found out. Travelling itself is so expensive, we went around with the entire gang that included my 2 cousines, 2 mechanics and poor me. The only thing i got cheap was the powersteering.

What power steering set up are you using? How much did it cost. I'd like to do the same for my MM540.

-Best regards,
Our TD engine had a powersteering pump, so we bought only the power steering box, which cost us 2500 and another 1500 for labour. Its almost in a brand new condition, had just run 3000 km.

I should say we were lucky to get such a almost brand new piece.

Some off beat pictures i took when we went to Kunjithany to get the patchwork done. This is my home town, beaujtifull and silent.

That jeep was used to transport massive wood logs, dont be misled by its looks, that jeep is in perfect condition.

MM 540/540 Wheel Base

Hi chaps,

Can any one give me the details about the wheel base for MM 540/550. If I'm not wrong it is 91 inch. Same as Jeep wranger is it?

I'm asking you the question bcoz I was thinking about the possibility of installing a Wrangler hard top on a 540/550. Is it possible to do that modification with some alterations on the body?

So finally the heart has been transplanted, phew. That was a huge huge hurdle crossed. But Kunjetan has asked me not get too enthusiastic as all can be confirmed after the engine is fired and driven around, thats still weeks away.

One more issue that cropped was that the engine was very very water sensitive. We are getting a Qualis lifting pump installed, along with a homemade alarm that would alert us when tank gets the full.

Improvisation, guys thats the name of the game !!!

MM540 with its original heart.

The new heart, and after it mounting.

The gear lever.

make sure that you change that 'EL-CHEAPO' steering wheel, it looks messy when you do up the jeep. try fitting a scorpio or the bolero steering wheel. it looks classy.

Thanks for the point. Will try to fit that in. How much would that cost? Here is the interior with the redone pedal set up.

We have finished most of the work related to the Engine.

The work that we have finished now are.

Booster brake of Nissan Load King has been successfully fitted.

Hydraulic clutch , gear box has been fitted. The clutch is hydraulic, we didnt know that. It has no cables !!!

Engine succesfully fited into the MM540 engine bay. We did face some issues as we ran out of space for the radiator, we had weld out a small porting to let the radiator in.

Now we need to fit in the lifting pump and the airfilter.
