i was searching foe extreme 4x4 & saw this,

it is a chain drive 4x4 , has free/locking front hubs.

i just lost all the details so i will search again post them asap.

Very ugly indeed. a regular Jeep going over the rocks looks much more graceful

We already had that technology long ago.
rikshaw and autorikshaw driven by crazy autowalas. I bet our autowalas can do offroading in three wheels. That would put this dude to shame for the amount of money and time he spent to make this work.

Kind of a demented Sonalika. The chain drives are interesting engineering. Does away with lockers, viscous couplngs, LSD etc.

I wonder what kind of ICE Sam Kapasi would install in this.

It's chain drive to all 4 wheels.Built it all himself on his garage floor
It does things on rock that no other rig can do but it's too heavy to compete. The owner says it's only 5000K or so, but I see 7000 to 8000 lbs of steel there. It is truly a monster. You will all want to see video of this thing in action. Today it suffered majot problems, but this was the first time out of the garage.

Each wheel is independently controllable like don robbins rig but with no axles he get more articulation than any solid axle rig can. The delta between front wheel is about 6 to 7 feet! Seems to have a little less travle in the rear, I only saw about 5'. I don't know it might have been able to do more.

On the lake been it lowered it's nose and rested the engine on the ground, they lifted both tires up two feet off the ground. Then it dropped it's tires back down and lifted the front end over 4 feet in the air.

Both wheels on each side are connected to a double jointed lever arm.

It also had left and right drive, he could drive both lefts and or both right tires. Or front tires, or rear tires.

He calls it the "CHAINLINK". He literally just finished the rig and drove out to the competition without any testing. I have personally watched the construction of this rig. I saw the rig when it was one axle and the four independant arms. When I first saw it I was skeptical. Then I saw it two weeks ago when he took it for a spin around the block. Cameron is truely a unique person with a wild imagination and has even a greater vision. He showed me erector set prototypes and I still did not get it at the time. The "CHAINLINK" is truely an awesome rig. I know Cameron is already thinking of ways to make it better and stronger. Expect to see more.

My hats off to Cameron and his "CHAINLINK". You are truely a visionary. The Rock Gods bow down to you.

Now there's a true rock climber!

It's like some weird thing right out of transformers. One moment it is still. the next moment it comes to life. those arms extend out, and it starts climbing, with its arms and legs!

Now that's one hell of a traction. Saying that, slightly OT, has any one tried out putting a plank below wheel that's stuck in mud/slush/sand while doing offroading? I once heard that it works wonders to pull you out, providing traction, no need to use the rocking motion of reverse/forward gears. I don't have 4wd or got bogged down yet, asking out of curiosity.

This is more a rock climber than a rock crawler with that kind of articulation.

Yes it works, "traction boards" is one name for them. The real masters of this technique get their co-drivers to pick up the filthy plank after the extraction.
