The 540/550 came as DP and XDB

DP: the XDP 4.90 B - 4 gears - 2112cc
XDB: the XD3P B - 5 gears - 2498cc

The 550 also had 4 gears.

The 540 was listed as a 6 seater and the 550 as a 8 seater
Spitfire is correct. I have verified this from old brochures from when MM540/MM550 was on the market. It has to do with the theoretical seating capacity for excise duty reduction and has nothing to do with the mechanical specifications.

PS: I really like Desertkings mods on his vehicle. Really suitable option to go from a closed top to an open top option. Should have done lil more research!

Maybe next time

well that would depend on your difinition of a jeep!! my jeep is the 2001 model. the 1st lot of boleros launched straight after the "armada" (i love that car) and hense still is a fuel guzzler and not a d.i. therefor definitely qualifying as a jeep . I like your jeep too.

there were a few more changes, notably the 550 came with power assisted disc brakes, and as mentioned a slick gear box, as well as a 2.5 ltr engine, that made the jeep get the power it actually required.
