I went to Mayapuri this weekend and was quoted 90K for a ok condition 2001 MM550.

and - 140K for 2001 MM550 with engine overhauled (including registration).

Dont know about 2004 mm550.

Are these prices decent?

How to "read/decipher" the vehicle list of Army disposals

I wanted to have some information on how decipher the army disposal list. Any help will be appreciated.

Ex:

Car 250 Kg 4 x 4 GS M&M CJ3B ----- I know this one, this is CJ 3B

what about the following??

Car 250 Kg 4 x 4 106 RCL Gun M&M
Car 250 Kg 4 x 4 GS NSN 60
Car 5 CWT (250 Kg) 4 x 4 Amb NSN
Car 250 Kg 106 RCL Gun NSN

Regards

I'd suppose RCL Gun M&M would mean Re-Coil Less Gun Jeep (of M&M)
NSN would mean Nissan-Shaktiman Jeep
RCL Gun NSN would mean Re-Coil Less Gun Jeep (on Nissan-Shaktiman)

Gurus can throw more light on it though!

Re: How to "read/decipher" the vehicle list of Army disposals

M&M RCL is a good stuff, now it is catching up fan following, there are two vehicle brought by a single guy getting restored at the place where I get my jeeps done. Though it is a CJ3B look alike but the best feature is the extra spring to withstand the extra 250 kgs of weight and also the recoil impact, split window, petrol engine are the added features.

So it is not CJ3B, but a look a like? Which model - do you know?

Also - extra spring, will it not add stiffness to the ride? More leaves less 250K weight = bumpy ride AFAIK?

Look up a thread by V-16 aka Gogi. He has restored a RCL CJ3B.

Here's the link:

Chanu,
Small correction. RCL Gun carrier is based on legendary CJ3B. Split Window was designed to fit RCL and as mentioned by you rear Coils for extra weight.

@Sach.Sri : Given a chance you should not miss it, as RCL CJ3B is becoming rare.

Re: How to "read/decipher" the vehicle list of Army disposals

thanks Shubhendra - i dont have an opportunity, i was just shown this army link by a friend and wanted to understand the vehicles which were mentioned in the list.

Also - i agree that CJ3B is a rare vehicle, and being SWB a very capable OTR jeep, but i want to own a jeep that can be used also for cruising and so - i am not sure that CJ3b would be a good fit.

infact, just like all newbie jeep enthusiasts - my mind at the moment is in constant turmoil - wanting one jeep today and lusting for another tomorrow

still - i do think that a MM 550 or similar (540, 440) - will be a better fit for my purpose.
what do you think?
