Re: Jeeps/Gypsy's: All through Army Auctions: What, When, Where, How?

Hi, does anybody know any dealer in Bangalore who can procure ex-army jeeps or gypys ? Please PM the details as I'm interested in getting one. As mentioned in the thread, directly bidding for a lot would not be possible, as I'm interested in personal use, and buying an entire lot would not be affordable/possible.

Lolz No. It is done through MSTC I think. All centralised and quite tedious process. But if you want to go through the inside network, contact the ordinance depot guys. I think there is some way where ready to be scrapped vehicles are given to officers. Exact process needs to be found first hand.

Need Help in buying Jeep

Jeepers,

Im new to the Jeep thing. Just like most of the men i too desired for a longtime to own a JEEP. But never couldn't push myself or convince my family to procure one till date as i never had a strong reason to buy one.

Now i have good reason and financially in a better situation to get one.

Reason:
We have a mango farm 75kms from chennai. Since last few years i had got involved myself heavily on agri side and go there every other week. Now I use my duster(earlier maruti swift) to travel to my village. Our farm is 2 km away from our village house and route is not easy to travel by low GC vehicles. We either walk to the farm or take our tractor. I took duster only once to my farm recently. Duster behaved well but came back with scratches on the sides because of the rubbing with bushes on the road side. Now i convinced my dad and wifey to purchase a jeep and voila they agreed for the same. Actually they are worried i will spoil the beauty of duster by taking it to farm frequently.

Video of the duster driving back from our farm:

From known sources i came to know there will be auction of old police jeeps in chennai next month. My uncle spoke to his friend who is Asst. Commissioner, and he has promised to get us one. I was waiting for this.

But today my uncle called me to check on jeep which is for sale. It a MM550 ex-army jeep holding PB registration. As of now i have no info on the current owner and how long he is owning this vehicle.

I need experts help in confirming the condition of the vehicle.

I have zero knowledge on technicalities of a Jeep. For the record i had never driven a 4x4, so please bear with me.

Im attaching the pics i took. I haven't meet the owner yet. Please let me know what all i need to check in the vehicle and with the owner.

Thanks in advance
