1942 Model Willys MB

Here are some pics to share with all BHPians of a 1942 model Willys MB fully restored in Dubai.

This Jeep is a property of a partner of Al Futtaim Motors and was displayed in the Festival City showroom of Jeep, ( Trading Enterprises ) Al Futtaim Group.

The showroom manager David Firth was a great help and allowed me to take these pictures.

I think the letter says lots of false statement. 1st the picture is CJ2A model's, the Civilian Jeep. Which is out in 1949 onwards...

Second they claim it is one of the ten available in the world.. Nope not at all.

I'm not too sure about the claims, but I love the work done on the Jeep. Immaculate,if you will.

Neat shiny restoration.

Few bits that dont belong and missing.
1) Gun rack missing
2) Extra meter on the dashboard does not belong there
3) One data plate missing
4) Windshield wipers missing.
5) Windhield mounted wrongly
6) Lot many other fittings missing.

all in all a neat looking jeep.

the photo of the jeep on the letter doesnt matches the actual jeep on display.

the spare is on the side in the letter and on the display jeep its at the rear!

It is a tall, false claim that this is one of the ten in the world, PERIOD!
The Shiek should come to Hyderabad and see more than 20 in better condition, it could be possible for the colour to be original (my doubts there)..... but the tyres original???? 1942-2009= 67 years. They would be stone hard (un-inflateable) or shreds by now.
No offence, Ya Shiek!

Hi Shahid,

U did see the MB and GPW in action in the 14th March OTR.

Our very own MOD Rabindra Singh (MOD RBS) and MOD Sarvinder Singh (MOD SSS/ Willys MB- in TBHP) have GPW/MB

even MOD Laxman (MOD SLS) has an MB.

All the parts in the above two are original. Further they do active hardcore offroading. Not framed for display.

Infact there was a Willys & Ford rally in Jaipur around october or November, MOD SSS got the 2nd prize in that.

That was a treat to watch as there were numerous GPW/MBs/CJs there.

Regds

you beat me on this kind of reply. With you Fazal.

BTW those tyres might be stuffed, just like those stuffed toys and wild animals.

Dear Shahid,

There is nothing great about the so called Willys MB shown in the pictures. There may be many mre flaws but what ever i could make out in one glance are as follows :-

1) The jeep shown on Paper is a CJ2A.
2) The Jeep shown in the above picture, the following parts are not of willys MB

a) The wind shield is of CJ2A
b) Wrong tail lights.
c) No pin tail hook.
d) No black out light on driver side fender.
e) No plug socket on the rear for trailer connection.
f) No Rear Grab handles.
g) No Bumperettes
h) Silencer exhaust at wrong place.

Cheers

Sarvinder

Hi Sarvinder,

I saw your Willys MB and Rabindras GPW in action. yes they are original restorations. We can do it better in India

In all probability this guy from the Al Attar family has restored a vehicle with CJ2A and Willys MB parts combined.

I dont care much about the authenticity of that letter, nor do I believe the claims that sales proceeds from an old Jeep can finance a wedding. All loose rubbish.

Only 10 of its kind - In Mayapuri alone there would be more than ten of each kind!

Also I do not believe that the rubber hoses, battery and tyres are from 1942. I am highly doubdful about the paint and wiring as well.

I posted it out of mere interest to share it with Team BHP.

He is a collector, and a nut. He has a showroom in the heart of Dubai, full of vintage cars, not for sale but display in what would be prime retail space. Also he has decided not to set foot on land. He has a helipad in Al Attar Tower and travels in a private helicopter. I guess he goes to only buildings that may have heipads. Absolutely crazy fellow. He is not a Sheikh but a business family of Dubai of Irani origins who migrated to Dubai in 1930s, so did the family of Al Futtaim.

But out of interest, I would be most interested to know the differences between WIllys CJ2A and Willys MB.

I have posted pictures of both these Jeeps here.
