Hi Santosh,

The Bolero/Scorpio Cover.

The Oil Capacity has been increased to 150ml to 1.8L.

Actually I think the Oil Filler Bolt has been moved up in the cover.

Arka

Bolero design has 8 holes for mounting bolts, 2 holes for dowels and 2 threaded holes for using as a puller to remove the axle shaft out of the axle housing. You have got some 6 hole flanged axle shaft which is not dowelled, so its of no use. Nagraj cup is not part of flanged axle shaft design. Nagraj cup is a sheet metal cup with a hole in its center, used to prevent the axial movement of the axle shaft and it's resultant breakage.

For a CJ340 application, semi floating keyed axle shaft is more than sufficient. I don't understand why you want to deviate from specification.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Dear DB Sir,

Did you(Mahindra) ever make a 48.4" or 4ft axles with doweled flange design ?

I'm kind of confused with the idea here, as the bolero or the latest MAX pickup or any other Mahindra vehicles are not matching to CJ3B/CJ340/Classic axle width, so why this suggestion ?

Any workaround to reach the solution as commented by you?

The FFRA (2 piece) version was introduced for the 48.4" Track for the Left Off-Set Differential in the 2WD CJ500-101, Is that one came with doweled flange design ?

I'm sure CJ-500 was selling in good numbers and how did those vehicles run without any issues?

This was the short S.S that caused the damage to the hand brake assy in prev page. Coming down was made a cake walk by this trooper, but seeing this I got interested to challenge the CJ340 up the slope, grass made it slip somewhere in the middle and rest is in the pics...!!

Edit.

Oh and in this pic the front right shock is so fully extended out that the rear-left went to take a leak doggy-style wouldnt happen in a stock jeep - need to go shopping for the bolero shock. I learnt that the Bolero SLX shocks are slightly better quality than the non slx ones. Hmmm....

547 days later...

....the cj340 finally becomes mine.

Sad but true, I was ignorant initially and that thought of getting back to the seller (a good friend) with the Form.29 and 30 (name transfer) just passed with each day of ownership.

Then he went faaar away from India, and the issue went down to the bottom of the ocean!!

For some reason when I was shifting thru the car/jeep/bike docs, I noticed I had paid the jeep's last insurance on the sellers name (rules). So started the painful process of walking up and down RTO, agents, courier of 29/30 to chennai and back!!

The Road tax hadnt been paid for a year, since the last place registered was chennai, I would have had to pay it there. Too much effort!! So 1st got the name transfer to Hosur address and 2nd paid the last years (apr10-mar11) tax 1000Rs Plus 50Rs fine.

So now, finally the CJ340 is mine - legally. The Green tax and Fitness Cert (F.C) is valid till 2013 thankfully. Insurance till aug-11. But Annual Road Tax is valid only till Mar-11 end, and i have to cough up another 1K next month end. These are the small pricks of owning a OLD jeep. But NO - am not going away from it anywhere soon...

Especially after...

So, time to splurge some hard earned dough on it.

Lets see, where can I start?

Santosh, just noticed, the spacer installation in your Jeep is incorrect. Please check Jaggu's / Fazal's 3B thread for more details.

Minor Rebuild

I have finally started the rebuild of my rotting vehicle. Money and time were short earlier, also good manpower at a reasonable rate was difficult to find. My rebuild is NOT a Pin-Pin, wing-wing, complete one. Many reasons.

1) Time & Money - always.

2) TUB is rotten beyond hell, need a super speciality place like samu's (coorg) or vivek's (bangy). Whole tub is held from outside by 3-5MM of bondo. Tinker and Painter pleaded Not to burn torch all that out - will take ages to bring back body line to decent state.

3) The infamous Grill/bonnet STAYS :( Yes - read on why. Sorry FB requests

4) Am planning to buy/source a used (decent state) CJ500's whole body/tub/grill/fenders in the future and cut the tub and use it in my jeep. It will work cheaper than (2). Problem with current grill is, not only the bonnet needs to be replaced - even the damn fenders needs to be changed (the whole setup is shorter by 4-5 inches than OE). I have quotes for 7-10K only for those 4 pieces. Not worth currently, so will invest that much and more in a complete set.

5) Still, going to remove the TUB out and scrap chassis how much ever possible, and primer/red oxide/hammerton (?)/paint it to preserve it. Chassis is still virgin. Cant get it to rust!!

I removed all plastic parts and got the jeep soda washed over the weekend, delivered it to the shop yesterday eve. Here are some WIP pics, work started today morning.

re: 1990 M&M CJ340

This is indeed good news, cant wait to see the work in progress pictures and report. All the very best. But if you are going to do the body work, why do it in multiple phases. There would be lot of small small works like electrical wiring that you would have to perform in the vehicle both the times.

re: 1990 M&M CJ340

Multiple phases as in? My electrical will be addressed after the paintwork. Everything works, but still getting a new BOARD done with all new fuse holders/relays/etc. What else do you think of? Please let me know, I may have forgotten a few...

Finally this beauty is at cosmetic surgery table. Great to see it's getting done. I'm hooked and also wish to see if you get an option for new tub instead of fixing the holes.

Santosh,
Does this mean that you are going to get the present tub tinkered, painted and then at a later date change it for a CJ500 tub?

Slightly confusing the point 4 in the first quote and hence asked you about multiple phase or redoing the tub later?
