Fantastic Job Santosh..Definitely a First!! Hats off to your involvement. Can you post a video of the PTO in use? Say to fill air/ paint?

Re: 1990 M&M Cj340

not so faast doc - the 1st cut is only to see if the comp works with the 1:1 pulley ratio in 4th gear (approx 1000RPM idle of a xdp4.9)

now i need to remove it, flush the sump and fill with oil, tighten the belt correctly, grind off the rough edges!, and find a short air hose to connect to the tank... talking abt the tank - thats another project in itself!!

It's going to be easier than you think for the rest of your project. The hard part is to get the PTO rolling and you have even connected the compressor. I think tank shouldn't be an issue, I have seen the miniature or imported compact air compressor with really nice tank to be used in mobile mechanical workshops (for air tools), painting and tire inflation purposes.

You should try them in Mannadi of Chennai broadway, elsewhere in Bangalore too. I'm sure you can hit the luck. Here is one of the example (sure it is US model but I remember seeing the same in Chennai as well with different brand tag). The tank part alone must be available in the tool shop.

You may also wanted to try fabricating a shield to cover the pulley and belt part of your compressor setup to avoid accidental contact by human organs.

Re: 1990 M&M Cj340

^ i thought u saw the tank pics on FB, may be not, sorry for not posting it here...

as of now, the comp is serviced and filled with 250ml of 15w40 oil, this tank is also fit behind the codriver seat - today morning job is to find the correct hoses and connect all this up and call it end of project!

Re: 1990 M&M Cj340

Getting there... current WIP status

Now I need to tighten all these into place with teflon tape and see if the auto-release valve works

Once there are no leaks, I will discard the STOPPER valve and connect to a 3meter flexi hose to pump air into a tyre...

Re: 1990 M&M Cj340

Hi Bro,

The mods you have made to your machine are awesome !

Is the pressure achieved with this compressor and tank setup enough to operate a Pneumatic Impact Wrench ? If "YES" then your vehicle can be of great use during OTR's as a Savior to many newbie's like me "both on recovery and minor repair" , even for a punctured Tyre we can do it like the F1 Pit stops(in secs) !

O.T : I really wonder what will be the scenario when you miss some important function to which your are supposed to take your family while your roaming in search of jeep spares in some junk yard and go back home late fully drenched in sweat and dirt totally unaware of what awaits you there ?

Re: 1990 M&M Cj340

I dont know how much pressure this thing generates, but i am sure at least i can fill tyres with it... i am doubtful about the pnuematic wrench though! but dont worry, i have access to one air wrench and i can test it...

OT - I know whats @ home everytime i go after a 'jeep-day-out' - 1 heavy diaper'd & happy 60day boy waiting for me to play and clean him up...!

Cover

Hi Santosh,

Do consider a cover for the Compressor flywheel, considering the position it is in this thing can take off a finger, before you realize it.

The cover can also serve as an arm rest and utility box.

Regards,

Arka

Yes Arka, once the whole thing works for a few days and i tie up all loose ends, the whole thing gets a simple cover which may double up as a storage box/cup holder - lets see... also considering the jeep is a weekend joyride for many kids in my apartment block - i cannot risk anything wrt to this pulley!!

Re: 1990 M&M Cj340

You have done it -- Congrats
btw I cant see a safety valve now ( excess pressure protection ) , its A MUST

also a drain plug is needed ( is it already there & easily accessible ? )

Re: 1990 M&M Cj340

Bhai - what I 'assumed' a safety valve is actually a drain plug - see this post 3rd pic

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-ve...ml#post2721541

i agree, i need to get a safety valve next, for the time being i am going to limit usage to max 75~ Psi in tank. Hope someone can tell me the rating this tank was designed for.

Also, sudarshan bhai - what is the use of a drain plug? PS - the tank's OE position was horizontal with the current inlet being the place for the drain bolt (see prev page) and that used to face the ground... now in this setup nothing is serving as a drain bolt!! what to do? Let me keep this setup for some time and considering its need i will move to a slender, more longer, lorry-ka-tank...

There is a Auto Release Valve(Safety Valve) one the other side of the tank facing the passenger seat, But santhosh bro please confirm if its working well.

also a drain plug is needed ( is it already there & easily accessible ? )
The safety valve will also serve this purpose i hope !

Forgive me if i am wrong

Re: 1990 M&M Cj340

Kumaran - how does the drain valve work? I dont think it is a safety-auto-release valve... it can ONLY be pushed inside but it would not move a inch outside. when I pressed it inside, all the compressed air came out, but there is no provision to let out the air - i think that is a different part!
