My own MM550!

Hello everyone! After reading and checking all the reviews from everyone about owning a MM550 4x4 I finally had the chance to get one of my own yesterday 02/09/09.
A big thanks to Mr Uday Bhan SIngh for helping me out with getting the MM550. He is a gem of a person!. Also to his mechanic "Dadu" he is going to carry out the restoration of the mechanicals of the jeep.
Now about the MM550. Its a 2000 model, body looks quite neat I hope you guys can give some inputs about what you feel when I put the pictures.
The restoration work is to start in the following days and go on for 2 to 3 months unfortunately I cant stay and see it transform to what i already planned for it because I have to travel outside India for work atleast till December 09 but i will keep being updated.
I am trying to attach some pictures do have a look and give your comments.

You have sourced the vehicle from one of the foremost experts in jeeps. Am sure the restoration will be a great job. Hoping to see some pics of the restoration in progress if possible and updates too. All the best.

Body looks in quite poor condition with a lot of rust but on the positive side you have UBS Sir to do all the work.

Whats the engine like?

I love the look of those military steel wheel-rims, especially the front with the free-wheeling hubs and all.

Congrats. How much did you pay for it ?
The tyres look great. Just check for the age of the tyres.

Congrats,the vehicle seems to be in a bad state,but UB sir had smelled something from it.
Don't worry you would njoy the most of it.Do you mind reveling the price?

Nice to see another person from Kolkata takes up to restore army disposal vehicle. You have a really mighty job ahead in getting this back to glory, but with supports of UBS in y'r side it will be done i guess.

well i have to say its in pretty rusty state of affairs and it needs a special treat from UBS sir!

will be keeping an eye on the restoration on this thread by UBS sir!

hey please provide details of purchase, $$$, etc!

do change the tyres! do you have any modifications planned or just keeping it simple dimple?

Hey Abhishek, congrats. So atlast you did it. I was so happy when UBS sir told me that you are getting this done. I always wanted people from Calcutta to get more of those lot. Are you getting those brand new Sandgrips too? Hope to go for an OTR by December with your newly done jeep.. what say?

Dont worry about the restoration is your absence..UBS sir has the best lot of people to take care of that.

Thanx every one for the inputs and nice messeges.
Well about the cost the vehicle came for around 80 grands. Yes there is a little bit of rust in places around but I am sure we can straighten it out.
The Tires are going to be replaced with 5 new Sandgrip sand and highway I will keep the army rims because i like the look of those rims atleast to start with.
About the restoration I will keep it simple try to get it as close as possible to the stock version as was in the army except for the seats and colour I havent decided yet on the colour yet.
Will keep you guys posted on the restoration work as it proceeds.

When in 2H mode using a FWH you can disengage the wheel hubs from the axle. This way the hubs move freely. No whine from the front axle and better fuel efficiency.

Well, you have laid your hands upon the gem of an off roader with oodles of character! Though there may be some patchwork, overall the vehicle has good shape and there is nothing that a good dentor can't set right. And you are one of those rare lucky guys who have UBS Sir to restore your Jeep. I really envy you!

Hey Abhishek,

Its a good catch I must say. You will have very nice experience in restoring this . Rusting and denting is not a big problem.

One thing the tyres dont look that bald, so you can still think of using it for some time.
My jeep tyres were totally bald when I purchased it.

What about registration / papers? All done?
