My jeep (orangie) and its restoration form what state it used to be has bought about a massive change in me and my outlook towards the indian 4x4 cars
i am in love with the jeep, its looks and moreover its capabilities.
so i thought i need to diversify
with two more jeeps already in the making process
i got my hands on two scrap 410 gypsy
wanted to see what i could do with them
so here goes
1st project - spoa'd with a very torquey engine
2nd project - pimped out offroader, my daily car

this thread shall be illustrative of the latter, my personal vehicle
A gypsy solely for me, my needs and nothig else
so it should have massive offroad capabilities, a winch, lights, beautiful seats, lots of grunt, the looks to match my personality and obvioulsy the X factor
So the donor car
A 1997 410 semi hard top
horrible condition
im startinf uploading pictures from today,
its been two weeks in to the project


need some help
obviously the stock engine will not be enough for my needs so really need to go in for an engine change
confused between the 1.6 or 1.3 suzuki engines
have a g13b lying with me also
really want to go in for the 1.6 though
need to make this choice soon
hopefully car should be out and running in a week

Do share on the following aspects also:

Work done to strengthen the body floor, mechanicals and especially the steering (drag link/tie rod) correction (in the SPoA'd Gypsy)

Would be keenly watching the thread.

Had followed your earlier projectofthe 'Oranjie'. You have done a splendid job. I am sure this project of yours will turn out just splendid. Looking forward to the updates on the project in the future.

PS: If not mistaken in your earlier threads you had mentioned you would be going commercial in restoring jeeps? So you do it commercial now? Do let us know I am sure many BHPians will be interested.

go ahead and get 1.6 engine , but it needs some alteration to mount it with stock gear box. gurus comment please !

get decent intake kit say from UNI as it will be used for offroading and measn lot of dust , K&N and all is not worthy for dusty conditions



Get a custom made exhaust designed for more low end and mid range

As usual it has to be a good thread. Wish you luck with the project. There are a couple of threads running here on the 1.6 for the gypsy. Some call it a myth, however i think its greatly possible.
I am sure by "good lights" you mean Light force, I have noticed them in all your vehicles.
Again, all the best.

The last picture has some tyres by the side. Are those the ones that end up on the Gypsy?

yes shall be using those tyres only,
cooper discovery stt, the same as my 90 defender.
this car is going to give lights an entire new meaning

Waiting!.. i like your Kalashnikov way of shooting WIPs . And considering they get done pretty much before time, i dont think it will be a long wait.

Guys, does SPOA only increase off road perfomance, or on road as well? When i say on road, i mean, body roll, stabily at speeds above 90~ and of corse, comfort.

hopefully, need alot inputs for this project to go entirely right
basically in the mechnical section
in terms of looks i have her in my head just the way i want her, mechanically have not satisfied myself yet

shall post details of the spoa project in another thread,
this one will basically have a shackle lift in addition to maybe a leaf upgrade,
shall be my daily ride from home to work ,thats about 100 kms a day, with flat out roads with the wickedest bends, spoa and a very powerful engine might spell doom for me,
but nonetheless shall give all details here


really want to go for the 1.6, if any fellow team-bhpians can help me source one, i shall be very grateful,
Also have decided to go in for a power steering, no a/c for now
i have a fetish for lights, so she will obviously be adorned with many.

All work is going on way before schedule, only halted for the engine options.
hopefully that shall be sorted soon

Any reasons for not going in for a diesel engine?

Although for daily of the kind you have mentioned, petrol may be better suited but just curious anyway.

Good goin bro! All your projets will definately be interesting. If you are looking at a torquey engine then i would suggest you get a G16B off a Baleno with a custom ratio gear box and you should be fine.
You mentioned flat out roads and a run of about 100kms, after you have your Gypsy ready with a SPOA set-up then why do have to take the flat out roads? Just go-off road and cut the distance shorter.

@GoSlow : A diesel set-up will have a lot of trouble for the car being road-legal, insurace issues, cop trouble etc.

Bro ask (Pdev)devang. Hes got someone in kalina who can source you 1.6's.


PS: COme to carters in the evening. Ksm-vtec's(kaushik) got this gypsy hardtop removed.
