Rebirth of a CJ3B, The Unstoppable Legend ! -By JeepCaptain

Thank you for your tremendous support and feedback for my 2 previous projects the Wrangler buildup

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-ve...j-buildup.html

&

The Gypsy rebuild

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-ve...epcaptain.html

Once again with the support and blessings of all bhpians, I am presenting my new project,

Rebirth of a CJ3B, The Unstoppable Legend!.

I obtained this 1967 CJ3B almost 2 years back to restore it to its original glory. But unfortunately for various reasons the project never started or was delayed .

It's a petrol LHD CJ3B converted to RHD and engine changed to B275 International Harvester diesel engine with 3 speed gearbox.

It came with metal half doors which are already removed. Even the front bullbar will be removed asap.
Engine is in OK condition so I am not planning to do anything with the engine as of now.

Last week I have kick started the project which I'm planning to complete it in 3 phases.

Phase 1 -Mechanical works especially overhauling of the following
a) Brakes
b) Steering
c) Suspension
d) Gearbox and TC
e) Fuel system
f) Cooling system
g) Electrical system

Phase 2 - Denting /Painting and cosmetic works
a) Restore front fenders
b) Remove metal hardtop /Replace it with a softtop
c) Replace side steps
d) Repalce rusted windshield
e) Fix seats
f) Fix grills for headlamps and turn lamps
g) Tow hook
h) Full denting and body work
i) Painting

Phase 3
a) Reverting to original Hurricane F Head petrol engine
b) with matching GB + TC
c) Revert to LHD

Pictures in the next post as I am facing some issues posting it here.

Your feedback and comments are always welcome.

Hey Shibu,

Wish you luck with the project. Are the wiper mounts in the original position?

Kaiser in India? A kaiser should look like this File:Kaiser Jeep 1969.JPG - Wikimedia Commons . Refer the Jeeps in Hyderabad, you will see a lot of Kaisers.

Thanks

Sree, no not the looks. I was comparing it to the trammways CJ3B which came as Kaiser in the book because of the kaiser ownership time frame.

The jeep looks as beautiful as the surroundings. The extended front bumper gives me the creeps, I dont know why. Lets hope that you restore it to its original glory as soon as possible.

Shibu, Do you think it would look nice if you are able to mount the spare wheel onto the side?

Stick to some of the old shades, I am sure someone here would have the brochure of the CJ3B. Me thinks the old shades are way too classy on a CJ3B. There is a CJ3b getting restored here in Coonoor. Amazing shade, a very light rustic brown.

Atul, the bumper extenders are already removed. Yes I have started the restoration after 2 years and I am trying to make it as close as to the original.

Beejay, I was also thinking to move the spare wheel to the side. And yes I will be going for one classic shade. Still havent decided on the colour.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Shibu,.what is the wheelbase of your jeep, I dont know why it looks slightly longer.
I am glad to see you wanting to fix the fenders back to the original Flatfender design.

Cheta,..do you have any source for 7.16 NDMS in kerala. I am willing to ship it back here to Delhi as even 6.16 NDMS is becoming a rareity now.
