Under Refurbishment

hi folks, my 3B is finally taking shape under the watchful eye of sudhirji. the engine has been reconditioned and fitted on the chassis, the tub has been given the first coat of surfacer and placed on the chassis and the clamping bolts are likely to be tightened on date. New NDMS tyres have been procured but will probably be one of the last things to be fitted. the bonnet and windscreen frame were being given a coat of putty on 30th. The front fenders are ready with the first coat of paint and are likely to be fitted on 1st Feb. Silencer is yet to be fitted and so isthe wiring harness. A lot of work is still left but the final shape is slowly emerging. i've attached some snaps.

Canvas Hood

Jeepers,
I need help for the canvas hood for my 3B. Searched the whole of azad market in delhi for a suitable colour and quality of canvas for the hood. The only worthwhile option was a white one. Can anyone help me out? I'm looking for either black or dark grey shade canvas type of cloth for making the hood. Black and olive greens available were too flimsy or of poor quality.

Hi Atul,

The the GOPINATH BAZAAR, in Delhi Cantt. or check out the Tarapaulin dealers, in Delhi. They should have a variety.

Also before buying the canvas verify if it is pre-shrunk. The canvas can shrink as much as 30% in Length after getting wet.

After you stitch the top spray paint it inside and out with the duco/aspa colour you want i.e black or OG.

This coat of paint prevents mildew and reduces further shrinkage.

The Indian Army used a black rubberized paint on the CJ3B top.

Rajdeep's JEEP is restored to Indian Army specs, including the black canvas top.

Regards,

Arka

PS - You're JEEP Looks Fantastic, please give my regards to Mr. Sudhir Kashyap.

Test drive

Went back to the workshop to check out the status. SK it seems took the jeep for a test drive and was satisfied with its performance. However the petrol tank was leaking and so he had to keep the test drive short. The clutch was on the stiffer side and i also felt the same when i pressed it in the standing jeep. However SK indicated that with this genre of jeeps this was normal.
Now waiting for a replacement fuel tank before we can go any further.

Steering Wheel

V8-thanks.

Was actually looking for an old design 3-spoke steering for the past few days. A new one is seemingly unavailable with the known Mahindra dealers at Delhi. Now have started scouting for a second hand one. In case someone can help me out i'll be gratefull.

YUMMY!!!!!!!!

Superb and classic outcome. Its far from bling and nearly stock, but the simplicity stands out!!! Planning for a roll cage?

Roll Cage

@ SVS - Have planned for a roll cage which will be a bolted structure and will get it manufactured and installed after the jeep is complete. Only the canvas part will be done as the last operation after the roll cage.

Was at mayapuri to locate the 3 spoke steering wheel. very difficult to locate one. At the same time managed to find the ORVM Ford GP style. Also planning to change the ring outside the headlite from black to the original chrome.
Still unsure about the window wipers whether they should be mounted on the top of the windshield or below the glass.

Dear Atul,
Your Jeep's coming out really well. Congratulations!
If you have a look at Gogi's thread, there is a similar discussion happening.
Vaibhav mentions both the positives and negatives of mounting the wiper on top/bottom. Just for your reference, here is the link: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/1737118-post221.html
Cheers,
Deepak
