But why? There are quite a few vehicles running here on Blitz. Sedans included.

Beejay,
Long back (some 17-20 years back), there were a lot of Cj3bs in Gudalur. The govt departments had lots of them. I distinctly remember the dark blue petrol jeeps with red detailing then.

There used to be a red cj3b modded to look like a CJ340 owned by the Sai Estate folks in Gudalur, similar to your jeep. The registration was something like TNN 4 or another single/double digit. I strongly believe that it would be still with them, as there was some sort of personal angle towards it.
Our neighbour then, had an immaculately maintained Willys jeep station wagon, in which he used to ferry down the kids in his family during vacation. People used to laugh at the owner's proud possession, then.

My headmistress at St.Thomas English school, too had a Cj3b with the XD4.9 engine (KLZxxxx).
There was this mechanic called Maniettan near marapalam. He is the aashaan for most of the mechanics now in that area. He too passed away long back. Probably you would have heard of him.

Though way off-topic, then there was this Ford/Chevrolet minibus which the owner Mohammed had named "rabiyamma". This was the only privately operated mini bus then, which used to make trips from Gudalur to Kozhipalam/Nandhatti. Every year he used to change the paint to some thing more vibrant
Ooty/Conoor too had lots of them. Brings back memories of the good old days that passed by.

Maniettan passed away a long time back. Now its Sasiettan in Coonoor.

Sadly most of the CJ3B's that were owned by schools have been taken down to Mettupalayam and scrapped. Many lie rusted in the premises.

The remaining few are being bought and restored, like the one in the picture. Belonged to Shanthi Vijaya school.

Hi Beejay,

The brown jeep posted by you looks to be a NGCS, is it a 540 or 550?

beejay,
Is that green CJ340 owned by someone in and around Gudalur.
Two weeks back, I had seen a similar jeep at Thaloor (close to Bathery).

Yes, it is.

Honestly. I don't see any use for it apart from adding weight to the fenders.

Looks being subjective.

Santosh, you are more than welcome anytime. In a months time there's gonna roll out another CJ340. We picked up a 91 model vehicle yesterday. Full restoration.

can you let me know where this jeep station is location. I am not quite able to figure out the location from the photographs. The blue old gen maruti 800 at the background looks quite familiar though.
