One lever doesn't mean electrical system. Even manual system has one lever option.

I didn't know that So I guess the front diff is actuated via the locking hubs?

Tini, earlier pics of Thar had manual locking hubs.

Actually none of the Jeeps in India come with locking hubs. A manual locking hub in India is an aftermarket addition.

Around mid 2010 should we expect this to be in the showroom?

At last. Dream come true. Hope M&M keeps it simple & Manual (transfer case). The Pictures look good. Cruising at 140 would put a nice wide grin on my face Now 6.5L would make me a very happy man.
Thanks M&M

Even I saw it around 8-10 days ago on the expressway. I initially thought it was another modded jeep, but then I glanced again at the speedo of our vehicle, and it showed over 100 kmph. The Thar easily passed it at over 100 kmph, its canvas top fluttering wildly behind..

As Samurai mentioned AC is most unlikely.
And electronic 4wd in an Indian version of Mahindra jeep seems way too sophisticated!BTW, what was the price of the Mahindra Legend? This can probably give some clue how much extra the 'Thar' is going to cost if ever launched in India.

Legend was released in 2004, that price is meaningless now. BTW, ever seen A/C in a softop model?

Hi Nishant,

The final version is expected to come with the 2.5 liter xylo engine rather than a 2.0 liter diesel as mentioned in the pdf document. It seems to be a much earlier document.

But those were added later by the owners. We are talking about how Thar will be delivered. You can add AC to Thar later like any other Scorpio/Bolero I believe.

History and Pricing may be something which could mow this vehicle down.

I know i am sounding pessimistic but just some eg:

They came with the Classic but didnt sell as many as expected even though they potrayed it as a lifestyle in itself

They then launched the Legend but in limited edition. Pricing was anyways considered very high.

They then launched the Major which is doing decent business. Advantage being LWB, Good engine with turbo pleased the rural market well. Well priced

Now the Thar looks juicy but hopefully M&M learns from its mistakes

All i can say is Best of Luck M&M. Hope you satisfy us

What is the ex-showroom price of Major? What I feel is that 2wd Thar would be a good model upgrade for it. It would be reasonable to ask about 30-50K above the price of Major. (what does it comes up to, anyone?) 4x4 and other variants to cost extra.

It would be a good platform with latest chassis and CRDe engine for a 4x4 lifestyle product as well as a mass passenger open vehicle for rural areas with longer body. Infact many more useful variants can be thought of. I see huge success of this tough built, non expensive, easy to repair platform in India.

If this has to click, then pricing will be the crucial point! i personally dont think it will sell if its going to be priced more than 5-6 lakhs OTR for the base version. Indian market is not that matured when it comes to offroad beasts. 100 is also an optimistic number.

Bolero itself will be the major competition if priced above 5 lakhs lol
