This particular news is very old, in fact Mahindra officials have been saying this in MGEs since last year. If you have something new, do reveal it.

Can someone not just ask Anand Mahindra to clear up the Thar story via his twitter account?

No doubts about it, need it as simple as possible with all the basic frills like PS and AC (even optional is fine for this). Rest leave it for buyer to customize, offer it as dealer fitments.

Otherwise this will become another horrid "life style" vehicle which never moved out of the showroom.

Question is will M&M listen, will they ever launch Thar, atleast in the next 5 years?

Good Scoop, I Still dont understand why an Indianised version, why not make all frills optional & let the buyer choose.
in India all of that (PS, AC & custom cabin etc) is very much required.

The link at Page 1 is not working :(

Has anybody ever seen a 'Getaway' on the road? There's judgment for you. This dead whale carcass is on the market and the MM540 is not.

Come on M&M, wake up.....there is a strong rumor that the Japanese are going to sell cars in India!....have you heard?

guys trust me on this, Thar will be launched in delhi expo next month.

there are some reasons which is making MM launch this vehicle in indian market:

1. MM has understood about the demand for such a vehicle in india through their extensive research and feed back though MGEs (great escapes).

2. Thar which was built for exports didnt get much response in the international market as MM expected, so its stock and concept being diverted to the indian buyer.

3. MM has all in stock, NGCS army surplus vehicles as IA is going for a new vehicle for its troops, CRDe engines from scorpio stable as its moved on to Mhawk.

4. MM has burnt its fingers with Getaway as a high life style 4x4 weekend vehicle which as some one correctly said, never moved out of the showrooms.

5. MM people have seen indian hardcore 4WD offroadies building their own vehicles from ex-army disposals, so why not a factory option for these people!

6. Indian 4WD offroad can now afford to buy a stripped down factory fitted 4WD in the shape of 550/Thar!

7. Stinger/Inspire/Major didnt sell through their customization dept despite hiring cricketers and footballers to sell it!

8. Legend was just a teaser to see how the market response to a factory fitted 4WD, true blooded offroader.

9. im running out of reasons, so please add your.

10. keep you cheques ready next month!

Just hope they get the pricing right.
This would be like a manna from heaven for people like me who cannot afford to maintain a vehicle just for offroading. waiting with bated breath.

This vehicle is primarily of interest to 4WD crowd. And most 4WD regulars don't click outside of 4x4 section.
