With Love from MayaPuri [Gypsy King]

Hi guys,
First of all let me thank you all guys n our beloved T-BHP for guiding me about how, where & from whom to buy n restore a gypsy king, before joining T-BHP I used to hunt for gypsy at the local used car markets of Indore & Bhopal n they used to quote absurd prices, once I went through our forum I learnt a lot [still learning]. Well anyways I managed a trip to mayapuri on the 22nd-Nov-09 with a friend of mine who's into buying n selling of industrial machines at mayapuri. It is an overnight journey from Indore to Delhi which seemed to be very long, but the wait went tougher when my friend reveled me that the markets there do not open before 11 .

On our way to mayapuri I was told not to have any face expressions if I liked a vehicle , as if they come to know that you've liked a vehicle they won’t negotiate.

After hunting a lot of shops n GYPSY's I finally settled to a 2000 Carb king. The Vehicle would reach me by Truck on 29th that is Monday.

So, in few days you will give the gypsy a new life and style.
(the way those lined up seems that those guys might have got the cars from police department - confiscated /abondend vehicles).

Now wait for the refurbished Gypsy !

I dont think that's feasble at all, also they dont insist on paying all the money upfront. It all goes by trust as well (surprising though).

I had gone there in 2002 with a friend who was looking for a yr 2000 KD CRD engine which is used for LCs. Without even looking at the tangible thing, the deal was through for 25k advance and rest when it was delivered two months later to Jaipur in the workshop. I can assure all that its working fine till date.

Friends,

Mayapuri happens to be the scrap market in Delhi, which specializes in army disposal vehicles. Especially Gypsies, MM 550 & occasional 3Bs. There are approximately 50 shops which sell these vehicles, the most prominent ones are Pali Motors (from where Annu seems to have purchased) and Padam Motors.

Yes, this place is very tricky & newbies are identified immediately. It is better to take someone experienced/ regular with you. Identify th vehicle that you like, and ask about that in the last!

2000 carb gypsy would have costed approx 90-100K. Pl confirm.

The Gypsies are available in all conditions (as is/ running) and they even have 'setting' in a few Punjab RTOs for getting vehicle registered in your name. This is also a place for cheap restoration of the vehicle.

I have personally purchased a 1999 Carb Gypsy King in June, and after an initial work there (which I found sub-stanard) I got the entire restoration done at MSM. Enclosing a few pics also.

Cheers!

ashish
