Absolutely, specially with a new vehicle. I had taken my 4x4 kit which include tow strap, shackles, air compressor, air pressure gauge, extra bottle jack and few extra tools. Also checked stepney, jack, tools etc.

Few more pics with surroundings.

I attempted the ramp in these pics, which we used to do very easily with jeeps. GV climbed till the top with ease and then the wheel base bottomed out. So took it back.

Once an off-roader always an off-roader.
Please also share the initial experiences of the GV, costs of ownership, etc.
I never really liked the vehicle but now started appreciating it especially after the prices in the 2nd hand market.

Yogesh, you must have evaluated the pro's and con;s of the earlier model. Apart for that being older and more fuel hungry, what are the other negatives that you came across if that model???

Yes Harjeev, I will write a report and post in new thread soon.

BTW, came across another GV 2007 (new model) white color, manual, 64000 on oddo. The seller asking for 11 L and not ready to give below 10L, not even 9.5 L. One of my friend is interested in same if we get at my price. But I guess mine was some lucky case. (I know you are lucky too..)

The older model is reasonably priced in 2nd hand market though. I don't know too much about older model only that is has a bigger engine, more length, lower GC and more power.

When I visited MASS to check parts availability, I was told that MASS is providing spares for both models and any part will be available on order within 7 days, so it is good news for both model. He showed me catalog and I was quoted Rs- 630 for bulb of projector light and 8200/- for each imported tyre.

SSS mod had an older model, do check with him.

First tank full to second tank full I got an average of 9.3 kmpl (465 kms from 50 lts). That is much above my expectation for the AT, specially considering it was 80% city driving (rather cruising) and 20% highway +offroad.

Its avery addictive car. We did 465 kms in a week, in city. Its a bit too much for us.. So thumbs up..

Edit- result - Altis for sale.

Thats terrific Yogesh.

Much more than what I was expecting too. As there is only one way of calculating the average, are you sure that the petrol pump attendant used the auto cutoff and dint add more fuel after the cutoff (in the 1st tankful). But even if he did, that should make only a minute error maybe a km here or there.
Congrats dude. This prooves that the previous owner maintained it well.

I too have bought a Maruti vehicle after 10 years and its much more piece of mind than tata or Chevy or anything else.
I think that its physiologically only, but still!!!

That's great FE from an AT GV. I don't get that much in my local roads in the MT GV. But then there is heaven and hell difference between Jaipur and coastal Karnataka. You have nice roads and we have.. I don't know what we have.

Compare it with the avg FE reading on the gauge. The guage is very accurate. Reset it everytime after a refill by pressing and holding the button next to it.

@ Harjeev- Its for auto cut off refills plus a little extra till the next multiple of Rs-50/- to round off. So that won't make much difference. So pretty good.

@ Samurai- Agree, we have good roads in Jaipur, less traffic and also that I can choose the best roads to drive as mostly we do not drive to reach anywhere, it is mostly leisure drive almost every evening after work with family, just for the fun of it.
I have adopted a simple strategy to drive as much as I can at the 30kmpl mark. In AT as soon as we leave the accelerator, while the vehicle is on the move, the RPM drops down to 1000 as if clutch is pressed and the average goes up to 30kmpl.

The average gauge shows mostly between 7 and 7.5 kmpl and that is what I was expecting. But the real average is different from it. In Altis when we leave race and let the vehicle cruise the current average goes to 99.9 kmpl where as in Vitara it goes to 30kmpl. I guess that could be the reason for the difference.

Traction control System and ESP

I was going through the GV manual and found this (see pics below). Just wanted to confirm does the Indian version has Traction control system and ESP?

Infractions: 0/1 (5)

You can confirm this by checking the indicators (lights) on the dashboard. There are pilots which should light up when the key is turned on or when there is a malfunction of the TCS or ESP.

4x4 there is no light in the dash for either TCS or ESP :( There is no switch to turn ESP on or off, so ESP is not there but does TCS also have light in the dash?

It would have been good if we had that. A good example of TCS in action in a GV

Yogesh, you can stop searching in the dark room in the night for a black cat that is not there.

The Indian GV doesn't have ESP or TCS. I have had TCS in an earlier car, so I would know if it was there. BTW, TCS is nothing but active version of LSD (which is passive).
