Hi Vinod, I always prefer to restore to stock condition and then start modifying.

The drive is fabulous.

Last week Siva drove it all the way from Chennai to my home town which is more than 1000 km that too without even a small glitch/breakdown.

There is still a minor issue with the steering. The play is too much. Need to get it fixed. Other than that it drives almost like a new Jeep.
Shibu

Amar,
Too good a Gypsy. Looks like new!! It is astonishing that you spent 90k on engine rebuild and G/B o/h? Is it that expensive for a Gypsy?

Thats a lot of cash dude!!!
But atleast you are satisfied with the final product. Will definitely meet mandeep one of these days and take a ride of your vehicle, if its still in Delhi?
BTW I have some questions, with the costs that Ive asked in your thread. Whenever you have the spare time please answer them
Cheers

Actually engine was missing lot of parts and had to buy them new,e.g Had to buy a new carb and New OE GB costed me 30K( i haven't bought the spares myself but thats the quote given to me), had to fix rear suspension, all the plastic items, front windsheild, bumpers, etc were put in new.
So if you start adding that up, its goes to almost 90K.

Amar

Amar if that a new MGP gearbox then thats a good price to pay. When I was in the negotiating phase of my vehicle, initially I thought that the gearbox or the transfer case of my Zuki has some issues and I would have to replace it. I am glad I was wrong, but when I inquired about the prices on old gearboxes from Mayapuri I got a quote of 12-15 k for a good conditioned gearbox and 8-12 k for a transfer case!!!
So if you paid 30 k for a MGP one, thats great!!!

Another INR 15000/- spending on him for the following
  1. Diesel Filter assembly
  2. Diesel pump service
  3. Diesel tank modification
  4. Diesel tube
  5. Alternator
  6. Wiring
  7. Differential ratio change
  8. Wipers

Headers, You havent made your spending on your Gypsy public just as yet! Please reveal those details and then curse me as much as you want

btw- how about starting with your 3B??

@propeller
My jeep was mechnically sound when i bought, still, spent major portion only on mechnicals. It takes lot of money not only to bring it to the original specs, but also to maintain them. So be prepared for more!

BTW what are you doing to your diff? 4.88? I suggest invest on your engine and other issues first as diff is not the immediate priority

@Beejay
I think your paint job is good enough unless some thing is badly rusted and flling off! Engine if doing well and not consuming oil, dont touch it. It's like opening can of worms (as Arka puts it) Go for a soft top and new tyres immediately on priority

You are right Vinod. The paint is kinda fine except for some places where it has peeled of a bit.
Engine is fine and I think can easily manage another 10 or 20K kilometer's, or maybe even more. I top oil once a while and needle hovers at close to 4 or 5 in the gauge.
Will live with for sometime then, both paint and engine.

Soft top will be done on Wedneday. Tyres sometime next year.

More ! I hope none from my home ever visit this thread else i'm going to be in soup.

Vinod My engine is doing fine its the diesel filter and the pump which is bring it down. My engine would not be changed till next Palar , i would rip my engine and get the max out before then and go in for XDP engine. (50 K)

Diff mine is in 11 : some ratio . Changing to 9 : some ratio

I also have the following in list
  • Free wheel hubs
  • Lockers
Might go in for Tinker and paint job in 2011

Yeah, you are running a 11/43 and i think you are going to change to 9/47 to get more out of that engine..

But First, get a 2002 or later FIP which will enable your engine to rev better than now.

And you CANT RIP THAT Engine buddy. It will RIP you instead.
