Stop " Penny wise pound foolish "

Finally decided to put a STOP to this $$$.

Yes going to sell my Jeep soon and go in for Thar if launched or Major.

NO more " penny wise pound foolish " 5.25 Lks for the Major and 30 K for the Maxis tyres and lived and offroaded happy ever after

I had crossed 2.5 lks for a 1964 model and still not satisfied so this decision

Propeller,
If you are not crazy about SWB jeep's then your decision is good!! But be prepared to still spend $$$ if you smash something off road.

Hey Propeller,

Cool man...dont get upset, your jeep is the best vehicle for offroading with the small mechanical works, but still if you are planning to buy thar or major, dont sell your existing 1964 model, keep it aside and use it once in a while...it ll become a vintage collection...nearing 50 years...its my small piece of suggestion.

HI All,

New year EVE was the day when i had found the answer for all the $$$ spent .

Yes I had taken my Jeep out and all my friends who had driven my vehicle before said - WOW have you changed the engine , have you changed the brakes - The vehicle is too good - Can We take it one day

I was flying 9 ft above the ground ( cloud nine ) . We drove on platforms , on bad roads and beach and finally " YES " money spent made it worth.

My friends after the drive have given me few cosmetic things like
  1. FOG Lamps - INR 500
  2. Stickers - INR 3500
  3. Showel - INR 200
  4. Lanten old type - INR 150
  5. Sponser for Painting - INR 10,000 ( He has his own paint booth - chrome and so on )
  6. Scorpio Body Cover to cover my Jeep - INR 250
  7. Orginal Zippo lighter INR 1000
  8. A FAst track army collection chain type watch INR 3800
So i'm saving on a lot of $$$ almost INR 20,000/

Eugene " Foreign Mappalai " plan dropped to sell this jeep off but i'm going to get another JEEP before end of this year .

Hi Kumaran,

1) Prop-Shaft - Rs1500 second hand, change the Universal Joints, and Check the Yoke Splines for slack/play.

2) Single or Dual Lever? Dual Levers Rs500 for a set. Single Lever Rs500.

3) Armada Grand/Bolero/Scorpio 160pcd
CJ3B/CJ500D/MM540/MM550 - 139.7pcd

The Older Axles (Front Steering Knuckle and and all 4 Hubs & Brake Drums have to be Changed to Armada 98)

The Newer Wheel Disc/Rims cannot be fitted straight away.

Regards,

Arka

I really dont know how you have all the prices with you. I really dont know how much I have spent on my jeep. May be I am really not looking at it as it will make me rethink about the jeep and if my wife finds out it will make her rethink about me :-) .

I have done the following on my Jeep after getting it for 1.5 Lacs.

Steering system - OH
Clutch - Repalced with diaphragm clutch
Gearbox - OH
Transfer case + Lever + Front differential - Bought new as earlier owner had mercilessly made it 2WD.
Rear differential - Changed to fully floating ones.
FWH - OH
FIP - OH
Starter - OH
Alternator - OH
New Soft Top
New Tyres - Forceum MT
Brakes - Repalces Cylinder assembly and liners
Full Electrical Kit - Replaced
All Lights - replaced
Wiper Blades - New ones
Pedals - replaced/fixed
Radiator - Upgraded to 4 core
Seats - Changed the front two to indica seats
Wiper Motor - Replaced
Ignition locks - Replaced
Wheels bearings - Replaced
Leaf Springs - Recambered
Toe rope and shackles.

I think I would have spent around 1 - 1.2 lacs for all these.

These are my immediate Wish List. Dont know when they will materialize.

Free Wheeling hubs
Mesh
tow hooks
Music system - in the process of getting it
Rear LSD
Winch
High Lift jack
Snorkel
Better Shock Absorbers - Bilsteins may be
Repainting & tinkering.
My diff ratio is 5.38 - Thinking of making it 4.88 for ease of drive. But when thinking of offroad situations i always think 5.38 is better

And Many more

Looking at all other rebuilds I now know that I need a lot of vitamin M which I am short of now. So going slow on changes now.
