Don't want to rub it in, but

The options were a brand new gypsy, a used gypsy with 1.6 engine, a scorp powered mm550 or a DCM powered mm550.
I think you should consider a brand new Gypsy, and then do a "Khan Sultan" on it. Brand new is brand new, man. Zero headache, Japanese reliability, built to be abused.

Not very sure about the army vehicles Guru.
This friend of mine only deals with vehicles from the Central Government.
So, the last lot he picked up were off 91 to 95 model 540s.
Will check with him again, but i guess, the civilian vehicles are used for a longer time before being salvaged.
Cheers,
Deepak
PS: Is there a specific year of manufacture from when NGCS was standard on 550s? @Spikey?

Drove the Gypsy extensively. Even GS's new dif locked one. For some reason just can't get my head to it. For me, the gypsy is like a thar. You just have to power through. Everyting is first low. Not too much gearing involved or crawl. Yes, crawlers will make a difference, but the mind and heart says no.

See BD's reply in another thread.

This was essentially a 115mm*60mm constant section box chassis having very good torsional rigidity. This chassis got adapted on the MM540s made after this time, but retained the wheelbasae and track. Please do not think of swapping chassis as all parts are different.

Hope this clarifies.

@Tejas - I agree with your analysis of the Gypsy in it's current form but I have been assured that with Crawler ratios it is a different ball game. Nothing can climb like a Gypsy and nothing can go through narrow tracks like a Gypsy. Every vehicle has it's Pros and Cons but I am with you 100% that you are a Jeep guy.

End all discussion until the NGCS Army Jeep is in hand. You don't breathe on the bloody thing without my/Allan's go-ahead. For the next few months you are "Son". Even Manan has a jeep LOL.

Will update the assembly line soon. Finding tyres is the biggest issue right now. No one has 33"ers and people are quoting crazy prices for 31 and 32"ers. This import ban has affected the market bad.

I dont like the way the projectors look. I also dont like the way so many fog lights are plonked onto the Jeep. My thoughts entirely.
