My Driver's quotes

I usually drive the Land Rover myself, but often I have to fight my driver for the wheel if I take it to work. He loves this car and can spend days fussing over it.

Please excuse the use of Hindi, there is no other way to make this humourous.

Upon curiosity in the building where I live.

Main bol diya sab watchman-log ko. Yeh German gaadi hai.
German?
Haan. Sab log poochta hai, kidhar se aaya, kitne ka liya.
Toh? German kyu?
Main bola yeh gaadi Madam ka hai. Germany mein chalati thi, abhi idhar leke aayi hai, India mein chalane ko.

I laugh. Toh phir?
Phir kuch nahi. Koi poocha itna time baad? Main bola gaadi ko ship se bheja. Time lagta hai.

Tumko maloom hai German gaadi ka steering yeh side pe hota hai.
Pointing to passenger side.

Toh kya. Woh watchman-log ko thodi pata hai!

Tum gaadi itna fast kyu chalata hai?
Fast kidhar, main toh 50 ka speed pe ja raha tha.
Tumko maine dus baar samjhaya. Yeh 50 aur doosra gaadi ka 50 alag hota hai.
Arrey 50 to 50 hai.
Nahi. Yeh MILES hai. Woh kilometre hai.
He looks confused. He doesn't want to argue but he thinks I'm nuts.
10 inch or 10 centimetre same hota hai?
50 foot aur 50 metre same hota hai?
The penny drops. Acha, yeh kilometre nahi hai, bahar ka kuch aur meter hai.
Haan. Aur idhar ka 50 apna 80 hota hai.

Upon capability of the car, I overhear him telling someone else:

Yeh bahut danger gaadi hai. Isko four-decker gaadi bolte hai. Maine four-decker chalayi hai. Tata Safari bhi four-decker hai.
Lekin yeh bahut alag four-decker hai. Yeh koi bhi cheez pe chad jayegi. Bahut danger gaadi hai.
50 ka speed pe chalao toh 80 pe bhaagti hai malum.

Every time we take the car out he will either fix something himself or take it to a garage and come back triumphant.

Ghadi theek kar diya. Gaadi mein digital clock tha, chaalu ho gaya. Usme 12V ka bulb bhi daal diya.
Thanks. I grin.

Another day:
Apna side view mirror electric se nahi chal raha tha na? Main ek gaadi ka mast electrician dhoonda. Usne phir se switch khol ke wiring kiya. Dekho??
He rotates the mirror joystick on the panel. The mirror follows with a whirring sound. Sab chalu ho gaya.
Thank you Akbar. What would I do without this man?

I am grateful for himand his enthusiasm. I do not think I would bother with every little detail in this car. He does and I owe him for this.

But there is another thing that amazes me. Everything works. Power Windows are fast and forceful. Power steering works well. Power mirrors work well. AC gets nice and cold.
The clutch that was replaced was from the factory. From 1993.

There is no rattling, the car goes thump and thunk and not whirr keplank. The suspension is awesome.

How well is this car built anyways? It is already 17 years old!

Please don't let it "user-refined". Who are we? We're just TBHPians.

You are a natural writer, a story teller, a man with magical realism. It's your thread and it's your planet...

This thread is just awesome for engine-challenged guys like me !! I love cars, but dont know the basics under the hood and as someone posted before, some things are just too embarrassing to ask.

Great going sam.

Please do post soon. Your thread only goes to show that, all T-bhp'ians have got obsessed with 4x4 vehicles and offroading. I doubt there are any regular members who have not thought about buying a 4x4.

Sam dear, this is not on!! After so many days I still see a poor quality phone snap and parked profile picture. This kind of laziness is just not acceptable..

jk, I'm smarter than you think.
engine-wengine compilation was done by my dear friend Jaggu. And there are two reasons behind that.
1. He's more inclined to do that kind of stuff.
2. It was easy for me to put up the whole note content with related pictures.

YetiBlog® - My Land Rover Discovery-screen-shot-20091217-10.03.53-am.png

DESCENDING STEEP SLOPES

A. Stop the vehicle at least a vehicle length before the slope and engage first gear LOW range with the differential locked.

B. Unless it is necessary to stop the vehicle in order to negotiate obstructions, DO NOT touch the brake or clutch pedals during the descent - the engine will limit the speed, keeping the vehicle under perfect control provided the front wheels are turning. If the vehicle begins to slide, accelerate gently to maintain directional stability - DO NOT use the brakes or attempt to change gear.

C. Once level ground is reached, unlock the differential and select a suitable gear for the next stage of your journey.

Warning: Failure to follow these instructions may cause the vehicle to roll over.

Thank you Land Rover.

Congrats. You are lucky to have Akbar!
As for the car, 17 years, and everything still works. Thats the beauty of land rovers.
I know you have no interest in OTRs, but atleast take her to a nice himlayan trip, driving on the riverbed with boulders, just like the owners manual says!

What is the fuel capacity of the car ?

Your driver seems to be more euphoric with the Car

Sam Akbar rocks. These drivers makes owning such vehicles a pleasure. Remember 2 of our drivers who had the same enthusiasm and its a pleasure being around them

Sam,

Dialogues are amazing. Your defender is in right hands =Akbar. Gaadi 80 mein chalaa raha hain, toh kya hua meter mein sirf 50 hee hain. Aur bahut dangrous gaadi hain.

Hey Sam congrats on the gift. Does she have the Airsuspension option or standard springs these were options in some disco's and standard in others? Can't wait to see her in shipshape. I suppose she is a 2.5 Tdi?
