The frustration and impatience sure seems to be mounting on most of you, hold on, cool down, the Thar is sure coming very very soon. As per sources on the www the probable launch is late March in SA and should be somewhere round the same time in India

There are still some homologation (Govt. activity) going on for Indian version. Guess Indian Govt has very very tougher vehicle laws than rest of the world??? Manufacturing is not yet started for Indian Version due to it. So launch date is not so soon as anticipated.

Very Soon is what we are telling to each others. No pakka date from M&M. No Indian web page, No advertisements? What are they thinking? Only Team-BHPians are the target customers or what?

Off road maniac,

Thar was a priority for export market as the market is more mature there than what is here in India. Hence Indian version is taking time. If you get Thar about 2 to 3 months later than SA model launch consider yourself lucky.

When did Getaway debut in Indian market after SA launch? 2 years i guess. Thar wouldn't take that much time.


Lets hope this vehicle get launched in India soon. Lets hope!

Headers why dont you throw some light on how your strom did the obst on the Jeep Thrills 5th Anni . This should support the THAR Mech Eng

Dont want to go off topic. But till the White Storm pics, will like to post below pics of BS Motorings Storm. Just to show it can jump. Good for rallies.
(BTW in Storm also, the Engine Oil sump is dangerously low)

Soft top shape

If Thar is being positioned as a lifestyle vehicle the soft top should be redesigned, just my opinion. The present one with straight lines can be replaced with a better material and with different shape like in Gypsy probably.

The roll bars should be standard fitment (if they are not) with small removable extensions to support the soft top to change the shape and loosen the lines of the top to give a new look.

Launch the vehicle M&M.

this thread is not about the design of Thar, but the mechanics of Thar.

btw the Thar is meant to be cj5/mm540/mm550 look alike from the day one.
so the design will never change.

Nobody here asked for a look alike. and now it is not a MM540 or MM550, the design can be changed infact and everyone will be happy so that the MM540 will continue being legend. Now you know what mechanicals it has and what it can do and what not, we can surely ask for improvements in the looks department. so that atleast it can be positioned as a lifestyle vehicle. Rich kids can use it for college.

Sorry jeepster sir I must be out of my mind I didn't read it anywhere that this thread is about only the mechanics of the Thar. See I still can't find anywhere that only mechanical stuff is supposed to be discussed, I think I have gone nuts

but in that category we already have mahindra invader.(looks)
so why a design change ?
we can ask for the improvement of the quality of the interior & body.
